MINOR HOCKEY NEWS Due to the cold weather the Port Perry Hockey Club cancelled ' their Chocolate Bar Drive on Saturday, Jan, 21st; If weather permitting the boys will be around to your door on Saturday, January 28th, Through your kindness and generosity we hope to make this the last chocolate bar drive of this year. JUNIOR HOCKEY :. By Dave Morton Port Perry Junlors came from be- hind Saturday night to whip the Warsaw 'Flyers' four to two in the second clash between these teams in two days. Friday night in Warsaw, Port Perry defeated the 'Flyers' nine to seven to gain an undisputed hold on first place 'and Saturday the 'Redmen' proved they intended to 'keep their lead. Gary Geer was the top sniper in Warsaw with a hat- trick, and Phil Clark was right behind him with a pair of goals, Parry, Gray, Carnochan, and Burnett each drove in a goal to help the Port Perry team to victory. After a scoreless start Saturday night Warsaw came up with a pair of --goals-early-in th second period that gave them a temporary lead. G. Geer tipped in the first tally for the home team at the '10:31 mark with assists going to Gray and Oke. Oke set up the goal with a hot slap-shot from the blue-line and Geer pounced on the re- bound. Two minutes later J, Carnochan slammed one in from the corner that caught the Flyers net-minder looking. The second period was marred with penalties as both teams turned on the _ pressure to break the deadlock. War- saw lost Allen and Nelson for ten minutes as they sat out misconducts. Two unassisted goals in the final period gave Port Perry the margin that was needed to take the game. Gary Geer skated around the Warsaw defence and potted his second goal of the. evening. Ray Jenkins wrapped things up with a slap-shot from the blue-line that deflected in off a_ War- "saw skate, MEMOS. : ~The game was delayed for "about fifteen minutes Saturday night be- cause the Warsaw bus was. sideswiped by a car on the Causeway and the driver had to wait for the Police. It . three stitches to sew up his lip when = ea aaa was a minor accident and no one was injured. Saturday night's session was to a large extent a battle between the two goalies, Wanamaker and Horton. Each of them had exactly forty-eight shots to handle but Wanamaker came up. with the key | saves that made the difference. Wanamaker has revertea to his fibre-glass mask, Although it needs an occasional cleaning 'during the game. Neil claims he can see the corners better. , . Ray Jenkins, who hails from Little Britain, joined the Junior line-up Saturday night. Ray played defence last year for Brooklin and will be a valuable asset to Port Perry this season. . . | Gary Geer has the most points on the Port Perry team so far this season. With seven- teen goals and nine assists he's off to a fine start. Jim Carnochan's got the best average with two goals and eight assists in only three games. . . . Chic Carnegie was clipped by the puck in the second period Saturday night and needed two stitches to close a gash on the side of his head. Doug McMillan was struck in the mouth with a stick 'in' the same game and knocked the cap off his tooth. Wayne Powell lost two teeth and required he was smashed in the mouth with a stick Friday night at a Juvenile game in Uxbridge. When the Warsaw defenceman Nelson had a ten-minute misconduct added to his two minute slashing penalty in the second period Saturday night, the captain of the 'Flyers' shouted, "What the - -- -was that for?" to which the referee then quietly replied, "O.K. buddy, you can join him!" On January 26th," Port Perry plays in Bobcaygeon. The next home game will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 1st, with Bowmanville being our guests. Game time at 8:30 sharp.
