Fred Jackson, District Churches On' Sunday we brought to a close our Summer and Fall schedule, and in spite of the rain and dull weather, all ee congregations were very good. had quite a gathering of young ns _Manchester, which enhanced the Service. It {s always a joy to see new faces at Church; and quite a dis- frpclituens -- the familiar and accustomed wo pers are missing. The Minister commenced the new ser- ies of Sermons based on the book re- cently published by the Church, en- titled "Life and Death". The theme on Sunday was 'The Christian Hope", Life can have real meaning for us ONLY if we can see the end. The Minister said: "That is the fault I find with so many of our modern Plays on T.V. Many of them have no ending, It might be implied; but I find myself frustrated, and with a question mark when it is all over, We cannot be sure what ending the author had in mind. And I come to feel that it was a waste of my time, because there MUST be an ending, The Bible opens with a beginning. It closes with an end." Here ig a quotation from "Life and Death"--"Christian Hope. is the ordering of our minds and lives with reférence to God's final purpose for man, and the universe, as revealed in Jesus Christ. The Christian Hope is this revelation itself--that God pur- poses to fulfil man's destiny, and con- summate his history in a New Heaven and a New Earth", Our theme for next Sunday will be: "What ig the meaning of Death 17" At the Evening Service at 8.00 p.m. in Scugog "Head" 'Church, we shall carry this theme fur- ther and ask the question "Why should '| we bother about life after death?" Our Brownies and Guides will hold their Hallowe'en Party this evening (Monday). 'Quite a large percentage of our girls are attending Sunday School and Church; and this is true for our Cubs and Scouts.. Of course, there are some who feel that because religious instructions are given at the public school, it ig not necessary for them to attend Sunday 'School and Church. May be, you could help us with that problem mother and dad. In speaking about our Christian Hope, one of the Minister's dearest hopes is, that every Brownie, Guide, Cub, Scout, Teenager, Leader, and every member of every. family in our Pastoral Charge, will become an active sup- porter of the Church. We are glad to report that the Pack of Cubs on the Island is growing, and ly, all our new chums will be invested and become Cubs, One week from SA HAN HEAR BE EEN we now have twelve boys.
