B. Rynard, M'P,, who recent: ly completed a trip 'around the world as the Prime Minister's person physi- cian, was the guest speaker at the regular meeting of the Management Committee of the Ontario County- Oshawa Tuberculosis Association, held in Beaverton. Dr. Rynard, who was born, raised and educated in Ontario County, pre- viously practiced medicine in Brechin. and is the Medical Officer of Health for Rama Township, spoke of the health conditions existing in the coun- tries he visited, particlularly tuber- culosis, which he stated is still a major health problem." He pointed out that Canada is the only country with com- pulsory pasteurization of milk," Pre- ventive medicine, said. the doctor, is much more important to the nation's health, than curing the sick after dis- case. He warned those present never to lpse their drive to prevent disease and congratulated the Association on their efforts in their own TB prevent- ative programme. < He told of the very poor health and sanitary conditions in some of the other countries he visited. In Pakis- tan, where the day-time heal some- heat sometime reaches 120 degrees, there is a wonderfully equipped hos- pital, but according to our standards every 100th patient would be a TB suspect and in India, every fiftieth |; patient is an active case of TB. Mr. D. L. Crozier, Seal Sale Chair- man, gave a report on the current campaign and said that while there has been a good response to our ap- peal, we still haven't sufficient money 'to carry out our planned program and hoped that friends of the association The campaign will not close until 81st March, : 3 Dr. R. J. Kimmerly, Case Finding Chairman, stated that a programme of tuberculin testing was being carsied out in the Oshawa schools and ar- rangements were being made to carry out a similar programme in many other parts of the country.
