People's Society held their regular weekly meeting in the basement of the church on Sunday, March 14th. About twenty members of the Mt. Zion Society were present as guests and had charge of the pro- gram. The meeting opened 'by a short song service led -by Kenneth Heron, after which Allan Carson, pre- sidept of the Mt. Zion Society took charge. "Thy 'theme of the _meeting 'was "Prayer". Shirley Empringham read a poem entitled "Prayer". Jane Tiffen gave a detailed explanation of the "Lord's Prayer". A poem "Don't Forget to Pray", was read by Mary McEnvoy, Joyce Disney read an ar- ticle entitled "Prayer is Man's High- est Possible Power", and Mrs. E. Wil. son sang a lovely solo "Mec Him In the Morning." Allan Carson then introduced Rev. 'Moore, of Mt. Zion. He gave an in- spiring 'message on "Prayer", refer- ring particularly to the Transfigura- tion of Jesus as an answer t6 prayer. Grant Carson. read a poem "Pray for Us", : : ! Lunch was served and a-soc enjoyed by all. On Tuésday evening, Mar, 16th the Ladies Bible Class held an open meet- ing in the basement of 'the church which was well attended. . °° The president Mrs, Alfred Fisher occupied the chair, The scripture lesson was read by Eleanor Varty and Mrs. R. Richardson led in prayer. Mrs. A. Dean and Mrs: F. Lynde were ap- pointed as the "program ommittee for the April meeting, which will be held in the basement of .the church. Mr; Walter Kerr then acted as mas- ial time ter of ceremonies. The program was in: the form of an 'Amateur Contest. judges. ~ Lucille Johnston, Phillip Do- tar solo contest with Phillip winning first prize and Teddy sétond. 'In the tries: Robert Compton who recited "Sugar Weather"; Gloria Martin, "Little Gustava", and Dawn Johnston, "The Bee". Dawn won. first prize and Gloria second. There were only two entries in the piano solo group. Helen Routley won first and Joy Bradley second. Judith Bath who sang "Whenever I feel Afraid", won first in the junior solo-contest and Faye Heron who. sang "The Ugly Duckling" won second. Helen Routley, who recited "My Ro- mance", won first in the Monologue class. } There was keener competition in the group singing class. Willy and Eva -] Van der Heuvel sang in Dutch "Mo- ther's Umbrella". Joan Gardner and Gail Bath sang "School'\Days". Frank Gardner and 'Faye Redshaw sang Fisher sang "Animal Crackers".
