Parkinson) --The past week, especially the week- end has been a--most active one- for cage fans and our local teams met with both success and failure in the various contests played. PORT PERRY LIONS "WON THE LAKE- SHORE TITLE here Friday night when they .downed the visiting Bow- manville Kinsmen by a 68-37. SCORE to take the series 2 games to one. Playing at full strength, the LIONS got rolling in the second quarter and ran wild to take the contest in easy fashion -- TOP SCORERS WERE |GRIFFEN (17), WARRINER (16), RODD (16), and OWEN (12). HOW- 'EVEN BEING FORCED TO PLAY ON CONSECUTIVE NIGHTS our local LIONS were far OFF-FORM as they took on MIDLAND here SAT- -| URDAY NIGHT--taking a 6 POINT ADVANTAGE in the 2 game total- point series by virture of their 55-49 TRIUMPH. Having a bad last half, the LIONS came nigh to blowing an 18 point' lead-which-they once enjoyed --6 points isn't (much to take with them to the return game at Midland on Thursday of this week (and we al- go learned Midland was 'missing two of its players here) but we feel the LIONS can come up with a better game away from home than they did before their best home erowd of the season. BANTAM BILL CORNISH put on u real scoring spree at Whitby on Friday as our PPHS Bantams upset the strong Whitby Bantams 48-29, This was quite a reverse as the Whitby Bantams had previously trounced our lads at Port Perry by a 48-26 tally. The whole- starting lineup of BANTAMS (CORNISH, CARNEGIE, LEE, AMES and DOUPE) did a fine job, DOUPE and JAMES HOLDING down WHITBY'S hig guns and LEE and CARNEGIE doing the rebounding, as BILL COR- NISH potted enough points to sing- ly outscore the opposition by 6 points, However, our PPHS SENIORS just didn't have it and came out on the short end of a high- -scoring affair that ended 89-67 in FAVOUR of WHITBY. HENCE NO BOYS TEAMS will be making the pre-Easter trip to To- Port Perry Intermedite 'C' Title : ronto as ag been their custom in the passt two years. IF THE BANTAMS can beat our WHITBY .BANTAMS in-a two-game- total-point series they will have to go on to beat out COSSA 'A' SCHOOL COMPETITION for a CREST, According to SEC.-TREAS. N. A. BBacH, next year all schools with less than 100 boys wil-be classed as 'C' schools rather than 'B' and this should mean that P.P.H.S. lads will be playing off against schools approx, the the same boy enrolment, for the first, time. ~ STAR OF THE WEEK---Here we are forced to select the whole BAN- TAM cage team for their fine .show- ing in the 48-26 triumph over the WHITBY H.8, : -» -------- gr Scugog News (Too late for last week) 0 he Heid Farm Forum met at the home of Mr, And Mrs. T. MIDLAND GAME-- The hurried up play-off of Friday night left its toll (for something must have) as our lads had a rough night of it Saturday night when they took on the Grey-Bruce Int. 'GC' District $1 Champs in OABA play-off competi- '| tion. Before a good home crowd our LIONS really never got clicking and only "a strong defensive half kept them in the contest---~when it was all over--LIONS had hung on to a six point margin on points taking the contest 56.49. The quarter-time scores were all in favour of Port Perry and read 14-7; 50-16, 46-38 and 66-49. At one stagé the visitors were down 18 points but they got better as the game: proceed- ward the end of the contest, ~ Jack Griffen played 'another strong game for the LIONS as he came up with 20 points followed' by Owen, War- riner and Rodd with 10, 8 and 7: re- spectively, Storry (6), Wallace (4) scoring, On Thursday the two teams will go at it again, this time jn Midland and Midland who were minus 'two play- ers here will be at full strength. The LIONS' six point advantage, while small, is: encouraging and. if our lads make the trip at full strength and play a strong game they should earn the right to eontinue on in OABA INTERMEDIATE 'Cc play-downs. hi Leading by quartestime, scores 11-8, Big guns offensively for the Jiome' ANNOUNCING COMPLETE LINE OF BIRDS EYE.
