The room had been beautifully decorated with fireplace, Christmas trée, evergreens and lights, making: a-lovely setting for the splen- did devotionaal service. Mrs, Mac- Taggart, who was in' charge, opened with a hymn, The Bible lesson was read by Mrs, Cliff Short and was of course, the Christmas story. Mrs. | Nodwell led in prayer and Miss Mat- I thews read a very splendid poem "Let not our hearts be busy inns. Mrs. Abraham and Mrs, Tobin, accom- panied by Mrs, Keen, sang a duet, "A Gift So Wonderful", The topic was taken by Miss Willows and was made up -of several thought provoking stories and a piece entitled "A Preach- er's Soliloquy." This story was ap- plicable to many congregations. In ijt a preacher is going over his roll and wonders why so many_church mem- bers, who have promised loyalty to God, and the church, fail to be present at church services, He considers dif- ferent means of dealing with this pro. blem but can arrive at no definite con- clusion. Tt gave all present cause to wonder if their loyalty and devotion were as deep as they should be. All joined in singing "O Little (Town of Bethlehem", Mrs. Butt, the president, took charge of the meeting and thanked the North Group for the interest they had taken in decorating and preparing such a splendid service. The Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved and the roll call and collection taken. The Treasurer, Mrs. G. Wanamaker, |; reported about $600 on hand, with some:-few outstanding bills. It was decide to pay the expense of the base- ment decoration from the 'basement fund and hand the remainder of this fund to the Board of Stewards. 'Also it was agreed to give the. Stewards $100. The Training School Fund, $483, the M. & M. $60. The Sick Box Com- mittee were instructed to send boxes to all sick-and shut-ins at Christmas. Mrs, Butt thanked all for their sup- 1] port during the past year and turned the meeting over to Rev, Mr. Wallace for the election of officers for 1054. On motion of Mrs. A, Bruce and Mra. E. Clements all officers were returned for another year, this saved a lot of time and energy. The Various com- mittees were then appointed with some slight changes from the past year. The meeting was closed by Mr, Wal- ; lace. Small tables were set up and a bountiful lunch served by candle light. This was the last meeting of the year and surely one of the best. ; On Sunday morning the Sunday School had its annual White Gift Ser- vice, - The children from Intermediate down to Primary were on the platform and joined in the choruses and sang and told their part of thé wonderful story of the birth of Christ. After the Shepherds and Wise Men had present. ¢ their gifts at the manger the chil- ren all marched past leaving their gifts. Baskets were then carried up the aisles to collect gifts from the con- gregation, The collection will be sent with the gifts to the Fred Victor Mis- sion in Toronto for use in their Christ- mas work, . - : The Superintendent Mr.. M. Bruce thanked Miss Willows and Mrs. Tobin for training the children, and also the children for the part they had taken; The service closed with "Joy to the World" and prayer by Mr. Wallace.
