The pair were shot not a stone's throw from his home when they were spotted: prowling in a field frequently used a8 a playground by the Hartin's children, down, escaped despite a hot pursuit by Hartin and. Bill Scott. Bears have been uncommonly plentiful in this dis- trict and throughout the remainder of the-highland area this year. They raided orchards, damaging trees, and have even invaded camp dook houses and back kitchens, so bold did they be- come. The long open fall ia blamed for their failure to hibernate and a scarcity of berries and other. food in autumn is believed to have eaused them to forage in settled areas. They have been reported as far south as Downeyville, x. 1 A cub, mate of the one shot | AIR FREIGHTER FOR CANADA: The first. of three Bristol Freighters ordered by Trans-Canada Air Lines has arrived from England for service on the airline's routes between Mont- real-New York-Toronto and Winnipeg. Ask How Beds Used In Cells How prisoners at the Whitby Jail get into their beds is a bit of a mys- |. tery to members of the legislature's select committee on reform institu- tions. During a recent ¢ visit to the county Jail, which members described as the | worst they had so far visited, the committee discovered the jail cells are just wide enough for a cot to fit in. W. J. Grummett, CCF House Leader suggested the beds are all pulled out into the corridors at night and all the prisoners but one gets into them. The remaining prisoner pushes the cots back into the cells. "The last prisoner looks for some othér Place to sleep," Mr. Grummett added, SOMETHING 'BLOUSES- 34 to 38 CATALINA WOOL JERSEY BLOUSES 'Black, Red, Natural and Beige patterned, RT PTT PP NRA and Away Games Flyer's Home Tue,, Nov. 17--Port Perry at Lindsay Sat, Nov. 21--Peterboro at Port P, Wed., Nov. 26--Port P, at Peterboro Fri, Nov. 27--Lindsay at Port Perry © Wed., Dee. 2--Port P, at 'Peterboro .
