A drive headed by William Hurwitz, Ross Mason, Coronet Television Corp- oration, and the Windsor TV Mane ufacturers Association is search-. ing the smaller centres of Ontario for some 400 Canadian workers with electrical, radio, radar or electronic experience to aid in in- creasing the Border Cities televi- sion set production. There is great civic interest in the drive as the television industry, unlike the automotive manufacturing, has no seasonal layoff, which is greatly dreaded in the Windsor area. The majority of experienced television workers in Canada are centred in Montreal and Toronto, and the recent rapid growth in Windsor, due to its close proxim- ity to Detroit, Chicago, and other American centres has absorbed all workers - with experience. They feel that every smaller Ontario center can yield 2 or 8 prospective TV experts. Applications are now being received. 'We urgently re- quire two types of 'workers. We want those who have an electric- al background, or are experts at soldering, or can train easily or we want the ambitious young people from the smaller centers to train on our production line for six months or more and then return to their home communities as our factory trained experts" Stated Mr. William Hurwitz, Cor- onet. TV president at a recent meeting of the Windsor TV Asso- ciation "Our workers will all be affiliated with the United Auto 'Workers, and their conditions will be excellent." Coronet Television currently has orders for 9,000 sets for Can- ada, and 10,000 chassis for export, and production is seriously de- layed through staff shortages-and |- training-on-production line work. The Company is présently turning out 40 sets a day, will be making 50 in November, and 100 by Feb- ruary. Their goal is 260 daily or 50,000 sets in 1952 when television will come to Canada. a Hallowe'en Dance © MEMORY HALL "UTICA FRIDAY, OCTOBER 26th Modern and Old Tyme Dancing Orchestra in attendance Admission 50c per person. a TWO i NIGHTLY - 7,00 'and i SATURDAYS and HOLIDAYS 6.30 and 8.30 ER MATINEE: 2,00 p.m, LS ET iV] SN MR. and MRS.
