Editor Port Perry Star Dear Sir: On several occcasions I have attended different functions at the Port Perry Recreational Centre which is indeed a great accomplishment for the benefit of old and young alike. I "have 'also. been skating on nights open to the. public "and have. exper- ienced one featuré-on the part of some. of the younger skaters that would not be tolerated in any of the Toronto rinks. r This 1 know .by experience. While most of us go there for a nights skating enjoyment, there are always "| « number of young and not so young, skaters who séem to think' they have the privilege of skating at..racing speed. I am sure that this cenduct is quite embarrasing to a lot of other skaters beside myself, especially to those who are virtually learning or have less experience, It is true in- skating as in walking, evédryone es- tablishes his or her own gait accord- ing to their personality, and it is not quite judicious that everyone should just follow the one ahead, but.when you watch these speeders dodging in and out, it could be that some one, some time, is going to get hurt. Hoping that the Recreational Centre Committee will put a curb on this form of expending the excess energy of the offenders. Yours Sincerely, ~vrse peer Wor Bee H.S. Boys in Sporis Possibly we' could now entitle the P.P.IL.S. Boys "not" in sport after the 3rd game in the Midget hockey play- offs was won_6-2 by Stouffville and thé Port lads went down 80-77 to Whitby in total points on the basket- ball play-offs. The hockey play-offs could be summarized as follows. First game at Stouffville, Stouffville 4, Port Perry 3; second game at Port Perry, Port Perry 4, Stouffville 8, third gmmne, at Port Perry, Stouffville 6, Port Perry 2. It might be inter- esting to follow the Stouffville Mid- gets in the Group "C". play-downs. Last record 1 had on this was that Stouffville were in round three of the play-offs against Bolton. As-for-the basketball play- offs the Whitby cagers visited Port Perry, boasting a 3 point lead by virtue of their 40-37 win in Whitby and it was this three point margin that gave this they the round, as the Wednesday game here was a tie 40 all. minus two of the best regulars, Al Cawker and Jack Griffen, who have discontinued school--attendance; the remainder of the squad, bolstered by 'the best Juniors, gave Whitby a real tassle "and lost out in the very last -minute--of play. It might be interesting to careful- respective" opponents as regards ex- "perience, population to select from (Stouffville midgets were comprised give a total of more than 3000--the limit for "C" competition) size, ete. ete, but let the records speak for themselves and say--*"congratulations to the winners"--and the better team won! : PPHS. News (Bonnie Milner, Grade 9B) On Friday, February 16th, the students and staff spent the latter part of the moyning in a special as- sembly. The main feature of the assembly was a most interesting talk by Howard Garvey (of Grade XIII) on his recent trip to New Yorrk and the United Nations. The assembly was in charge of fifth year students with showman Pete Sulman being M.C. During the same day we note that nervous Grade IX rookies presented oral compositions--well Alva, Shirley D., Mildred E. Bob G., John H., '| Eunice and Sondra, you made it O.K.
