A SR AS RAL 1008080800000 PORT PERRY YACHT CLUB Gird your loins for battle all you sailors of the PPYC, we are off for the start of a series of thrashes, Every Sunday p.m. in Port Perry a rather strange phenomenon takes place, A number of the inhabitants spend an hour or so putting sails on boats, checking rudders, ballasting, |looking for a crew and taking test jruns in preparation for something or other, When all seems to be as it should a couple of men go out in a little boat with flags, stumpy mast, stop watches, anchors and all sorts of seemingly useless paraphernalia; stop off the jetty and start to tinker with the aforementioned flags, mast, etc. During the time this boat is mucking about, flying said flag, the rest of the boats rush around madly hither and yon seeming to strive to Yoon as close to the stationery boat as possible. Then it happens: down comes one flag, up with another, a whistle blows and everybody in the boats go wild. They try their best to sink each other at best, pushing, crowding, jostling, |striving to-do something, 'till all of a sudden they untangle and all head in the same direction, For a few minutes all seems peaceful on Lake Scugog once more; then a flag looms upon the other side of the lake and starts this murderous maneuvering all over again. Twice this happens after they have left the little boat making the watchers come down with nervous prospration or give up in disgust. Finally it's all over, The boats re- turn to the Jetty, the crews get out and proceed to beat their gums at a terrific rate in loud voices amid great laughter. What's it all been about? A sail- ing race of course. All seems very nonsensical to anyone watching pro- bably, except when you know what is happening. The best way to find out what is happening is to get in a couple of races. yourself, Nothing is con- fusing then, it is all as clear as light. but at times most trying. You'll never know what it's like "till you try it, so why not take a whirl at it. But this business of girding your loins: racing starts on Sunday you lucky people. Do you think you could be there by two, if you we ask for one? Of course it is silly to expect all to be there at one because of much Dore important commitments, never- theless, wa do so in hope that you will be there at two, the time! Two oclock is Pictures. GET THE BEST. Open Sunday ! Give yourself a better chance for successful pictures. : Bring them into us. Don't be disappointed in your Summer Phone 96 . It helps to produce the goods and provide the services and jobs which mark the : Canadian way of life. "Money in the bank" is the foundation of credit. You and some seven million other depositors have nearly seven billion dollars in the chartered banks. To pay for work done, goods produced, bought and sold, Canadians issue -- every month -- upwards of gix billion dollars in cheques. Cashing these cheques, making loans, discounting notes -- in many different ways your bank keeps money and credit moving through all the channels of trade and opportunity . . . like oil in the machinery. This whole vast, private, competitive, efficient process is made possible by your 'money in the bank" -- and by the experience and skill and integrity of the men and women on Canadian bank staffs. Going to your bank is not like having to deal with a state bureau--but that's how it would be under state monopoly. All enjoyed | ¥ ---- Lakeview Theatre, Port Perry, Ont. Two Shows Nightly--7 and 9.
