During this week Scouts and Guides celebrate the birthday of Lord Baden- Powell, the founder of Scouting, who was bern on the 22nd of February. On Wednesday February 2 23rd, the Seouts and Cubs are holding a "Father and Son" Banquet i in the Sunday School room of the United Church, On Thursday, February 24th, they are holding an Open night at the School, to which everyone is welcome. The pro- gram will be a usual week's meeting. At 11 o'clock, Sunday morning, February 27th, the Scouts and Cubs will attend the United Church Service, This yearly parade is rotated 'among the churches, and it is to be at the United Church this year. SCOUTING We certainly need a hall of our own! As you know, we usually meet in the High School gym; but last week there wus a basketball game, so we were temporarily without a meeting place. The Cubs met in the Public School beside the kindergarten room. Ior- tunately it was a bad night and not many turned out. After the Cubs dis- missed, we used their place and finish- ed a very enjoyable evening. We are not complaining by these few words. During the service Misses Catharine Fisher and Shirley Lynde. sang "Sweet Hour of Prayer." At the conclusion of the service the Y.P.U. conducted a Fireside service, Miss Doris Mae Heron occupied the chair and opened 'the meeting with the singing of 'Jesus Saves". A welcome was then extended to every one present, especially to those from Port Perry. The Glee Club then sang "Lead Me Gently Home". A number of hymns were then sung following which Mr, Riddell showed a number of slides depicting the various Oriental conceptions of Christ. The service was then brought to a close by the singing of "Evening Prayer" and prayer by Rev. J. Riddell." A dainty lunch was served and a social time en- joyed by all. On Friday evening Feb. 4, a com- munity get-together was held at the Ashburn school in the form of pro- gressive euchre party. Eight: tables were played after which the usual social. time was enjoyed over the tea cups. Mrs. Wm. M, CRAGG PASSES IN TORONTO ' Teacher in England in various uni- versities in Japan for many years, Florence Estelle Jones Cragg, widow of the Rev. Dr. W. J. M, Cragg, died ill for some months. . Retiring in 1939, the Craggs re- turned to. Canada. Since 'Dr, Cragg's death in 1940, Mrs 7Cragg has resided in Toronto and' has been an active member of Humbercrest United: Church. She has been a frequent, speaker at W.M.S. meetings in the City. .
