LOCAL NEWS ANNOUNCEMENT The ' engagemeht is announced of Hazel Jean Metcalf, Reg.N., daughter of Mr. Norman Metcalf, Bowmanville, and the late Mrs. Metcalf, to Robert John Jeffrey, Port Perry, son of Mrs. Cecil Jeffrey, Toronto, and the late Mr. Jeffrey. The marriage will take place quietly on Saturday, November 8th. Mr. George Sharp, of Timmins, is spending some days visiting friends and realtives in Port Perry district. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Scriver re- ceived a letter this week from their gon, Ronald, saying that he has ar- rived at the Prairie Bible Institute, Three Hills, Alberta, where he is 4 Miss Nicholls and Miss Gertrude Kennedy, former residents of Port Perry, now living in Oshawa, were in town last Thursday renewing former acquaintances. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Pearce and fam- ily, of Midland, were in town this week with relatives. It is pleasing to hear that Mr. Cecil King is getting along nicely, and showing signs of ultimate recovery. Phone 203J after 6 p.m, ACHIEVEMENT DAY The Achievement Day for the Beav- erton Baby Beef Calf Club was held at Beaverton Fair, on Saturday, Sept. 20th, with 14 boys and girls complet- ing the project. The boys and girls exhibited the calves which they had fed and cared for during thie summer and are to be complimented on the fine job they did of fitting their calves for show. E Besides showing the calves, they judged a class of Aberdeen Angus heifers and wrote an examination on feeding and management of Beef Cat- tle.
