John Cheshire, of Toronto, a missionary home on furlough from India, had charge of the evening ser- vice at Burn's church on Sunday at 7.30 p.m. The Red Cross sponsored an enter- tainment and pie social in the com- munity hall at Myrtle on Tuesday, July 17th, at 8.30 p.m. Lieut. Lyle Sherwin acted as chairman, The first number on the program was a chorus "MacNamara's Band" by a-number of boys and girls accompanied by the Mrs, lidgar Heron, Lieut. Sherwin in suitable costume and carrying a beautiful bouquet of ox-eyed daisies, then sang a solo "Why Am I Always a Bridesmaid 7" and responded with an encore by singing "A Little Bit of Heaven". The characters for the short play "Mary Molly Malone", were then introduced-- Mary Malone, Frances Lynde; Mrs. Barrington, Catharine IMisher; Mr. Barrington, Hugh Knight; Ilka Barrington, Joan till; Percy Vanlone, Douglas Ashton; Noel Barrington, Llewellyn Richard- son; Bridget, Ruth Richardson. The play was quite humorous and the characters acted their parts well. Mrs. Wes. Routley conducted the draw on the beautiful oil painting by Murs, Illmer Milne, who drew the winning ticket, Mrs. John Meclntyre was the holder of the lucky ticket. Mr. Frank Lynde auctioned the pies, following which everyone enjoyed a social time and a sing=song together. We wish to thank Miss Fern Stephen who so ably assisted the young peo ople in pre- paring their play. On Iriday evening, July 20th, a large number of friends gathered at the home of Mr, and Mrs. Wm. Hop- kins and presented Lieut. Lyle Sher- win and Miss Doris Lick, of Oshawa, with a shower of gifts in honour of their approaching marriage. - The presentation took place on the spacious lawn. After Lyle- and Doris had been escorted to their seats of honour, Miss Hilda Hopkins and Miss Gertrude Parrott presented them with a prettily decorated box, heavily laden with gifts. After unwrapping these many useful gifts Lyle and Doris pleasantly thanked" their as- sembled friends and invited all to their new home. Ice eream was then served and everyone enjoyed a happy time chatting with their friends. We all join in wishing Lyle and Doris much future happiness, Mr. Jas. The Timms and MeCartney families enjoyed a picnic supper at Lynbrook Park 'on Sunday. Blood Donor Clinic The next clinic will be held on Fri- day evening, August 31st in the usual place, Port Perry High School. All volunteer donors will be duly notified and we would appreciate it very much if this date be kept open for this worthy, project. During the summer months several financial donations have been sent in and we wish to take this opportunity of acknowledging them. We sincerely thank each and every one who in any way has made an ef- fort to help this cause along and trust that you all will continue to do SO. On June 23rd a Bazaar was held by the following girls: Kay Aldred, Bar- bara Hunter, Barbara Hooey, and Sheila Davidson, and the amount real- ized, $10.00 was donated to our Clinic. Harper took the Scripture reading which was a portion of St Matthew, chapter b, $69 on hand, be held at the home of Mrs. Clark, with a pot luck program. A motion carried that bur W.A. become affil- inated with the W.M.S. of the United Church of Canada, and five dollars to be donated to it. A discussion was held regarding a- W.A. picnic in Aug- ust. Mrs. W. Perry lad charge of the following program: reading by Mrs. G. Hunter, "A Little Prayer"; Quiz conducted by Mrs, Perry; read- ing by Miss D. Murphy, "The Glory Road".
