Hutchison | 'Retires' Outlines Expansion of Educational 4 Facilities for Trustees Boards. I Oshawa Daily, Times) ! spector of Public Schools for South Ontario, has. sent a letter to the Boards of School Trustees in his bo spectorate, in which he reviews the educational progress which has mark- | od his 33 years of office." | He also expressed his appreciation of the co-operation he has received from school trustees, and recommends his successor, Mr. Arthur Archibald, B.S.A., who is expected to arrive in Whithy this week. - Reviewing some interesting history with regard to schools in South On- tario, which for years included Osha- wa, the retiring inspector says: From 1913 until 1930 all public schools in South Ontario, including the City of Oshawa, were under my charge. But following the last Great War, Oshawa grew very fast and in' 1930 when there were about 90 teach- ers and classrooms in the city, an ad-! ditional inspector, C. F. Cannon, B.A.,! was appointed Inspector for the City Schools. i In 1913 there were 96 teachers in South Ontario. Of these 23 were iy Oshawa. Today, there are 204 teach- ers employed of which 90 are in Osha- | wa. That tells something of the growth in South Ontario during thei past 30 years. During the same period, 1913 to, 1930, there was spent for new school buildings approximately $2,050,000. Of this amount $621,000 was spent outside of Oshawa--$180,000 for ur- ban, $441,000 for rural schools. During my term of office, I have enjoyed my work. I have found trus- tees, almost without exception, willing to co-operate in all improvements that haye been made. .and-I wish: to thank them for that co-operation. Without that help it could not have been done. The New Inspector The new inspector, Mr. A. A. Archi- bald, B.S.A., assumed his duties on September 1st. He is a graduate of Guelph Agricultural College. He was the efficient principal of the Whitby High School for about 16 years and is highly respected in the Town of Whitby. He hopes that his association with the people of the inspectorate will be pleasant and happy. -- et PP Accomodation for an additional 400 officers and other ranks of the C.W.A.
