Birds had begun to sing their love songs and look for nesting places; tulips and other spring flow- ers which were showing well above the earth, filled one with an urge to get out and work among them. Then on Friday morning: what a shock to waken and find. the ground inches deep with snow! A young male robin made his appearance on the back verandah on Saturday morning. Feathers ruffled and his head hunched low to his body, he surveyed the white expanse with disgust. Crumbs thrown out to him made but little impression. After looking at them and pecking them over, he finally gulped down some of them in a leisurely manner as much as to say, "They are a poor sub- stitute, but for the time being they are better than no worm at all."
