Ow PRESENTATION TO OWEN CLIFF On Easter Sunday morning, the Port Perry United Church Sunday School gave a very sincere welcome to a soldier visitor, in the person of Owen Cliff, who as assistant Superin- tendent took part in the Sunday School session. Following the optn- ing exercises, Mr. Fred Reesor and Mr. Stanley Ploughman, representing the Sunday School, made a presenta- tion to Owen of a leather money belt and a zippered pocket Testament with Psalms. The following address was also read and presented: Mr. Owen L. Cliff; Dear Friend,--By the presentation to you of this money belt and zippered Testament, we wish to convey to you our sincere appreciation of your ser- vices in this Sunday School, both as a teacher and officer. Your life and character have been an example to the boys you havé taught, and you have filled the office of assis- tant Superintendant very efficiently. The meeting opened with the singing of a hymn, followed by prayer by Margaret Day. The minutes of the last meeting were read and adopted, and the roll was called. The Scripture passage was read by Betty Cook Some business was discussed and a hymn sung. Then Evelyn Guy, convener of Christian Citizenship, called on Mr. R. B. Small- man, who was guest speaker. He spoke on "Character as a Reflector" and read a story by Robert Flaherty character - so strongly, it. was like having Christ in the house. ' Mr. Smallman was thanked for his inter- esting address. . The meeting closed with the singing of a hymn and the Mizpah Benediction. The Y.P.U. have accepted an invita- tion to visit Greenbank 'Y.P.U. next Tuesday evening, April 14th, Will anyone who can take a car load of young people to Greenbank, please get in touch with Margaret Day or Dorothy Balfour The young people are asked to meet at the United Church at 7.30 on Tuesday evening. MISS MAUD GORDON DIES Miss Maud Gordon, of Toronto, daughter of the} late Henry Gordon and Catherine (ordop, died on March 24th, 1942. She was born in Port in our Public and High Schools. Later, she graduated in music at Whitby and Toronto Conservatory of Music, after which she taught in the Conservatory for a number of years. Deceased was a -member of St. John's Presbyterian Church at the time of the ministry of the late Dr. McMechan, Two brothers survive -- Mr C. H. Gordon, Vancouver, B.C, and Grant H. Gordon, St. Hyacinth, Que." The funeral" was from thé Trull Funéral Home, Toronto, Intérment was made at Pine Grove Cemetery, at Prince Albert, Ont. Miss Gordon was a cousin of Mr. C. H.
