R. BENTLEY'S OPTOMETRIST A MAGNIFICENT CACTUS Thrdugh the kindiiess of Mr, and Mrs. Jonas Smith of Prince Albert the flower lovers of Port Perry, and we hope that takes in all of us, have the opportunity to enjoy the sight of a cactus in wonderful profusion of bloom, 57 large double pinkiblossoms by actual count. The story is that this cactus for some: years back has obstinately refused to bloom. As a cactus when not in. bloom is not by any means beautiful and this one was positively ugly, it was natural that Gardener Smith's patience was about exhausted and last fall he decided to leave it out to freeze, Mrs, Smith, a little more optimistic, suggested sus- pended sentence for another season. Seemingly this had a good effect for this spring it burst into 4 mass of bloom. b-bd A friend suggested that it was too bad to have this rare sight in a cor- ner where but few could see it and asked to be allowed to take it down town and place it in a prominent win- dow where all could enjoy it. Really this was asking Mr, and Mrs. Smith to make a sacrifice. They had bur- dened themselves by nursing it along for years when it'sfas only an eyesore and when at last it bloomed and they had a chance to get some pleasure in return for their labor they were asked to deprive themselves of it and give it to others but with characteristic un- selfishness they assented and it is now in Mr. I. R. Bentley's window. Let us give the Smiths a hand. a a SCUGOG The 'evening service will be held in the Head Church next Sunday at 7.50. Everyone invited. Mrs. O.
