Beatty Store Port Perry hh A Timely Sermon The members of the Loyal Orange Lodges of Port Perry and vicinity at- United Church on Sunday &vening lagt. the church choir. The sermon was preached by Rev. W. J. H. Smyth--"The Marks of an Orangeman", and the text was taken from 2- Cor, 13:6--""Prove your own selves." The address was clear cut and timely. Assuming tft nothing was known of the aims and principles governing the Orange Order, the speaker turned to the Constitution for enlightenment. There he found that the first demand made by the Order upon its members was that they be "true patriots," To quote "The Loyal Orange Association is formed by. persons desirous of maintaining the laws and constitution of the country." This loyalty has been an outstanding contribution by King William, With such background & tant minister g into'a ity should be' encouraged when he finds that there is an Orange Lodge there, and be able to say--'Thédve is body of men. upon whom I can de- pend." Of course we are speaking lrete not of the flag waving and. drum beating glitter and tinsel, but of the patriotism which is of the mjind and heart, W. E. The supreme business of Orange- men is to promote the Protestant faith. The power of the church should be -increased in its Christian influence over the lives of men. The mission of the Order is two- fold--to protest against error, and to assert and live truth. Merely to be a PROTEST-ant is not enough. It is the business of Orangemen to protect all that is right. The member who walks in the parade behind the|. open: Bible, and does not know and live as nearly as he can the principles it teaches, is only masquerading, and is no true Orangeman. ' The fact is that only by the exercise of Zealous Christianity can the true purpose of the Orange Order be at- tained.
