Some of the many prizes came to our village, Several friends here attended the funeral of the late Alden Hodgson, husband of Ada Nickle, last Tuesday afternoon. Interment was-made in the Anglican cemetery, Columbus. The sympathy of the community is extend- ed to Mrs. Hodgson who was formerly a Myrtle girl, Mr. and Mrs. John Chisholm, To- ronto, visited with Mr. 'and Mrs. R Chisholm last Wednesday. I Mr. Elmer Cross, former caretaker of the C.P.R, station, was in the vil- 'lage last Thursday calling on old neighbours. He is Jroving his family 'to Bala, where he is taking over the [ work of the night operator at the station. Rev. and Mrs. W. E, Honey were in Toronto a couple of days last week, where Mr. Honey attended the Gen- eral Council of the United Church, Mr. Gordon Barton is at work again in his own office, after doing reliev- ing work for the past three months. r. Christie and on Sunda October 19th, the musical drama "The Last Rehearsal" will be presented by Bethesda dramatic club. A short spicy comedy "In May with June" will iven first. "The Last Reheasal" has me very popular and everyone who has seen and heard it, speak of it in highest terms. Old fashioned costumes will be worn which will add much to the presentation. Several from here attended Mark- ham Fair on Saturday. They said the crowd was like a miniature To- ronto Exhibition, The exhibits were very fine generally, and more than one prize was brought home by neighbor- ing farmers. Mrs. L. L.. The farmers are now busy with the buckwheat crop which is not as good as some years, otatoes are a fair crop. Mr. and Mrs. A. Prentice, Kay and Eddie, visited his parents at Port Perry on Sunday, The Communion service was: well at- tended on Sunday morning at the Head Church. In the evening the ser- vice was at the Centre. The theme of the service was, Fanny Croshy and her hymns. MANCHESTER September 28th. The President, Mrs. MacFarlane, predided. The meeting was opened by singing hymn "Unto the Hills", followed by silent prayer for peace and the Lord's Prayer in| unison. In remembrance of Miss Christina Thorburn, a dear and faith- ful member of the organization for! many years, the hymn "Safe in the Arms of Jesus' was sung. Final ar- rangements were made for a bazaar and supper to he held in St. Andrew's Church on Friday, Oct. 21st, Mr, and Mrs, John Blanchard, Mr. and Mrs; Howard 'Blanchard and daughter Miss Barbara Blanchard and Miss Evelyn Ross of Leaskdale, and Mr. Reid MacFarlane, Toronto, were! with Mr. and Mrs. S. MacFarlane on! Sunday. Mr, and Mrs. James Clarkson were presented with a lamp at the Manse on Tuesday evening, and a social time was enjoyed, Rev. and Mrs. Kennedy were in To- ronto, one day last week. CUGOG Next Sunday, October 9th, is the anniversary services at the Centre Church. Rev. R. H, Wylie, Columbus, will be the speaker for the day. The choir will be assisted by the Boys' choir at 11 a.m, and 7.30 pm. Every- one is invited to come and receive the benefits of these messages. Then on Wednesday evening, Oct. 12th, a hot roast fowl Shops will be served in the township hall. This will be followed by an entertainment given by Beth- esda folk. We are pleased to have them back with us again. Come and enjoy these special occasions with us. he Junior Girls' Institute held its first meeting of the season on Satur- day, October 1st, at Stephenson's Point, with thirteen members present. A paper chase was a very exciting part of the program with Mrs. John Burnham the winner of the prize--a box of chocolates which she shared up with the rest. After the sports, lunch was served consisting mainly of pork and beans, Mrs. John Burnham and Miss Florence Carter are the program committee for the next meeting. The | sports. A fire at night is alway an exciting affair, as was proved one evening last week when Mrs. Chandler set a pile of weeds on fire which caused quite a blaze. The phones soon got busy as well as several cars were seen rushing down the road for it looked like Mr. Mills' house or barn was on fire. We were glad to see it was just weeds. Mr. C. Hardy and family had a very narrow escape from getting in the lake while crossing the Port Perry bridge recently. The cap came off the steering wheel of the car and it headed for the lake.
