Bowling Tournament June 156th proved a red letter day ___for the local Lawn Bowling ' Club, when a full entry list competed in the Scotch Doubles event scheduled to open the men's season here, on that date. x Weather conditions, as well as at- tendance, were all that could be de- sired, and keen competition was in evidence on the greens. The newly decorated Club House caused much favorable comment by the visiting bowlers, amongst whom were two teams from Balmy Beach, Toronto; eight from Peterboro, four from Markham, as also good repre- sentation from Port Hope, Cobourg. Oshawa, Whitby, Cannington and Lindsay. Of the six prizes, five went to visit- ing rinks. Port Hope won first place, Markham second. Did you know that? It does not look that way when you ride through the country and see big barns, great herds of cattle in pasture, the finest agricultural machinery, and a little bit of a house not.well kept. Home-makers do not realize how very important their position is in the world. They once knew, but have forgotten. The trend of the times has been such that we have honored every profession above that of the housewife. How we have come to live cannot say. - But the fact remains that without the home-makers it would be useless to have big barns, great herds of cat- tle, agricultural implements, and acres of land. There would be no homes, no schools, no churches, no govern- ment, Neither would it be of any use to have great smokestacks attached to monstrous factories, nor great dry- goods stores. Places of amusement would be superfluous, All works of art would be valueless. All books, all inventions, all discoveries, all business would be without excuse, and could not exist if there were no home- makers.
