RE HER "What saith Monday evening, CONDUCTED BY FORTY QUARTETTES, DUETS, Come and Il. O.D. EK. The annual report of Scugog Chap- ter, Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire, for the year February 1st, 19517, to February 1st, 1938. During the year the Chapter held nine regular and one executive meet- ings; each presided over by the Re- gent then in office, the first our by Mrs. Nind, and the remainder by Mrs. I. K. Bentley. The total membership was forty- four with an average attendance of nineteen. Two new members were added during the year and there were five visitors. Members of the Chapter took the oath of allegiance to King George V1 at the February meeting and attended the Coronation Exercises held at the school in the afternoon of May 11th. In the evening they co-operated with the Clergymen, Town Council, Vete- rans and others in a fitting observance of Coronation Day at a special service in the United Church. The annual 1.0.D,E. Memorial Ser- vice and Decoration of Soldiers' graves was held in the Pine Grove Cemetery in June. In November the Chapter attended the annual Armis- tice Service held in the Presbyterian Church. | The Chapter was divided into five groups for the purpose of raising funds and the years' activities com- prised a bridge and euchre party, a lecture on "Interior Decoration" by Lionel Scott, a lecture with coloured moving pictures of "Historic Places in England", The Pageant at Mid- land Shrine and Some Beautiful Flow- er Gardens" by Dr. Williams; another 'moving picture, "Breed of the West", a lucky number draw on three Christ- mas cakes; an enjoyable New Year's dance, and,-in January, the Chapter catered to The Lions Club banquet. In June the annual picnic was held at the Government Park at Orono. There were no meetings during July, August and September. The Scugog Chapter's delegate Mrs. Woods, attended the annual conven- tion of the. Provincial Chapter au Hamilton in April, and five members attended the semi-annual meeting of the Provincial Chapter at Moreh Bay in October. As the LLO.D.E. is primarily a pat- riotic organization it was a source of satisfaction that the Chapter's schol- arship of twenty dollars was won by Gordon Tetlow, the son of a Great War Veteran. "Prizes were given in each form of the Public School, to pupils showing the greatest progress during the year. 1.0.D.E. calendars were distributed to Port Perry school rooms and to country schools in the vicinity. Five copies of the Coronation number of the Echoes were donated. + The Child Welfare and Sick Relief Committee did excellent work through the year. They supplied cod liver oil and other necessities to under- nourished babies and children and co- operated with the Town Council in supplying clothing, groceries, etc. Through their efforts, a sub-normal girl was admitted to an institution. In December they distributed Christ- mas baskets and parcels and remem- bered shut-ins. i Donations were sent to the Bursary Fund and to Secondary Educational Relief. of the meetings were 'arranged by the program committee.
