SWANICK, espectfully Solicited for ach Township for Year 1935 _----------------- Township Live Stock Meetings A recommendation made at a recent ! County meeting of Live Stock men and Veterinarians was that meetings should be held in every Township with a view to discussing a subject 'of special interest to farmers at this time namely the treatment of horses for Bot discussed and a phase of feeding of special interest to Live Stockmen in the Winter months namely Mineral Deficiency - will also have a place on the programme. The meetings are being arranged , from January, 10th to 16th and will start in Rama Township as follows: «= The annual loss due to Bot Flies in-Jan. 10--Rama Tp. Hall at 2 p.m. the County is hard to estimate but every farmer knows the annoyance 'caused by Bot flies and also knows that Bot infested horses are subject to colic and digestive disturbances which cause: unthriftiness and sometimes serious loss. The object of the meetings is to get the co-operation of all horse owners in having their horses treated as by do- ing so the cost of treatment. can be very greatly reduced. i All the flies that will annoy horses next summer are in the stomach of the horse from December 10th to February 1st, in the form of Larvae attached to the lining of the wall of the stomach. If these Bot grubs are all killed there can be no Bot flies. ~The treatment consists of Carbon Di-sulphide in proper proportions and ! it should be administered by 'a quali fied Veterinary Surgeon. Veterinarians throughout the County have signified their willingness to co-operate in do- ing the job at a low cost providing the farmers will co- operate in lining up 50 or more horses along a concession or in a School Section for treatment on a given afternoon. In addition to Bot Fly Control there will be other subjects of interest to Live Stock men discussed at these meetings. The matter of Warbles in Cattle will be touched on. { A campaign for treatment of. Warbles was carried out in the South' end of Ontario County last spring with | | SWERTMAN BLOCK Phone 26 PORT PERRY, ONT a cost around 3% cents per head.
