If felt hats are to be worn, they must be -of the lightest felt and have a distinction that meeds no plgeking of canary tails, The brim may be as wide as the wearer's individual- ity demands, but it must not be turned nor sewed at the edges, ann as for color, something similar to the color of the suit being worn' ) | should be selected. As for spats, white ones may' be worn at weddings and on' other formal occasions, but the hideous shades 'of yellow and brick brown which 'haberddshers were offering their -eustomers two years ago are being sent now to the French col- onies of Centrgl Africa to be ex- changed for ivory tusks and other useful artieles: So far a= the smart world is con- cerned, there will be only two kinds of spats, light gray and dark gray, with buttons as small and ineonspicuous as possille. UNBREAKABLE GLASS USEFUL DISCOVERY Liverpool. Oct, 26,--Glass which it is impossible to break, admits health-giving ultra-violet rays, 1s non-splinterable, cheaper than vita- glass, burglar-proof for jewellers, and adaptable to a hundred and one uses has been discovered by Professor E. C. Bayly of Liverpool University and his son, E. J. Bayly working in collaboration with Dr, F. Pollack, distinguished Austrian chemist. The discovery foreshad- ows the establishment of a new British industry and a possible revolution in the present method of glassing shop and house windows by brittle glass. The new substance is known as pollopas or *"plass" for conveni- ence. * Originally it was the inven- tion of Dr. Pollack but when the discovery was taken up by a Brit- ish syndicate the services of Profes- sor Bayly were sought in an advis- ory capacity. , "It is rather early yet to talk of the discovery," said Professor Bayly in an interview. "A lot o* work will have to be put in before the processes are absolutely per- fect. For one thing, we are not vet fully satisfied with the bril- liance of "'plass."
