Additional letters and paragraphs which appear- ed in other newspapers are reprodu- ced as follows: (The Perth Expositor) Keeping pace with the growth of the automobile city of Oshawa, the Oshawa Daily Times issued a special number of 38 pages, on July 8th, to signalize the installation of a new and thoroughly up-to-date press room equipment, the latest additions being the new Rotary tubular press in conjunction with the stereotyping lant. The special issue, which is highly creditable in every respect is profusely illustrated with pictures showing various departments in The Times building. Included in the illustrations are pictures of The Times staff appearing on two special es. The staff numbers 86 in the on awa office and four in the Toronto branch, (St, Mary's Journal-Argus) The Daily Times of Oshawa has is- sued a Greater Oshawa Edition of 112 pages, a highly creditable issue, which gives a wonderfully compre- hensive and illuminating review of the tremendous industrial advance- ment of that city. Within the past five years Oshawa's population has doubled, largely owing to the cxpan- sion of General Motors, although the city has a number of other important industries. The population now stands at 25000, General Motors, whose buildings cover 49 acres, employ 6,- 500 people and are turning out 730 cars 8 day, or an automobile every 40 seconds, One of a great many in- teresting features of the Greater Osh- awa Edition, is a write-up of a new { girport and landing field to be erect: | ed at Whitby, for the use of Oshawa f nd Toronto. The proposal of General { Motors to build airplanes no doubt i has some relation to the airport i scheme, Oshawa and Whitby used to * be four miles apart, but Geo, W. Mc- t hi By President of the Oshawa Chamber of Commerce, recently Fasid:--"The boundary line between Oshawa and Whitby is only an im- k ginary one and will be wholly ob- erated." (Niagara Falls Review) J The Review has received a hun- Wred-page copy of the "Greater Osh- awa" edition of The Oshawa Times, and congratulations are in order for those responsible for such a fine pub- lication. Probably no city in Canada has made such a phenomenally rapid growth as Oshawa in the past few years. From a quiet little town, it has jumped into industrial import- ance, with a large population and flourishing businesses. It is many years since the writer passed through Oshawa, but it is evident that he would not know his way about the Oshawa of today, judging by the photographs in this edition. The "Greater Oshawa" edition is full of information and points with pride to the Oshawa of today and with pardonable optimism to what the city may yet be. The Times is to be congratulated on the many signs of the prosperity of itself and the com- munity it so worthily serves. (Chatham Daily News) The remarkable growth, industrial achievement and civic development of the city of Oshawa is. described fully in a special "Greater Oshawa Edition" publshed by the Oshawa Times, and containing more than 100 pages. ' Oshawa is the "Baby City" of the province, but judging by the ap- pearance of its newspaper mouth- piece it is a very thriving infant which has long since outgrown the swaddling clothes. This remarkable city owes much of its growth to the automobile in- dustry, it being the Canadian home of General Motors, but in other ways as well the city shows the result of the wise policy of its citizens in pro- moting a healthy development in all lines of enterprise. The Oshawa Times itself shows the effect of this development, and it is easily gathered from this spe- cial edition that the newspaper is keeping well to the forefront in the march of progress. The Daily Times is indeed to be congratulated upon the Greater Oshawa effort, (From The Lethbridge, Alta, ; Herald) A city of 20,000 population with a newspaper that can produce an edi- tion of 112 pages must be, of some considerable importance. The Oshawa Times in its remarkable Greater Oshawa edition easily established that Oshawa is no mean place, Its growth has been phenomenal, A few years ago it was a small Ontario town; today it is one of the livest of Ontario citis, forging ahead in population, wealth and industrial im- portance, due to a very large extent to the expansion of the automobile industry, Last year Oshawa produced eighty million dollars' worth of man- ufactured goods; its payroll is over $10,000,000 a Year its building con- struction in. 1927, over $5,000,000 in value, was sixth in the Dominion, (A. Talbot and Ce. Printers, Please accept our thanks for the copy of your special edition just re- ceived. This is one of the finest editions we have ever seen put out in Can- ada, and much credit is certainly due to you for such enterprise, (Jean-Francois Pouliot C.R.M.P. Riviere-Du-Loup, Que.) I have just received the Greater Oshawa Edition of your valuable pa- per, for which I thank you. Pray accept my sincere congratulations, (The Ottawa Journal) The newspaper special edition is frequently filed for reference by busy executives and public men, The data contained in these well presented specials is often of a nature that it is difficult to readily obtain. Particu- larly valuable is the special edition dealing with the history and growth of an individual city. One of the best of its kind that has been issued for some time is "The Greater Osh- awa Edition" of the Oshawa Daily Times. Its wealth of information pre- sented most attractively forms a val- uable cross section on the thriving city with which it deals. 3 AMBROSIA Combine the juices of 3 oranges 1 grapefruit, 1 lemon, and 3 table- spoons pineapple juice. "LAW AND THE MAN" TO THE NEW MARTIN THEATRE THURSDAY With a new twist to the eternal triangle, "The Law and the Man," Rayart's new drama irom the Octa- vus Roy Cohen story, "False Fires," comes to the New Martin Thursday for a run of three days. The plot centres about the political situation in a community which 1s ruled by one Dan Creedon, who is in love with Margaret Grayson, a wo- man attorney, though she in turn has only a warm friendship for Dan, and has announced her engagement to Ernest Vane, a young architect, member of an aristrocratic but pov- erty stricken family and with a per- sonality which is rather warped in many respects. Dan, who lets no- thing stand in the way of his desires, sets out to prove to Margaret in his own fashion that she was meant for him. He makes her District Attor- ney, then through political intrigue he dishonors the name of Vane, who is accused of forgery. Then Marg- aret has to decide between love and duty, for as District Attorney she has to prosecute her fiance or betray the trust placed in her by the towns- people. As the case progresses Vane is shown up as the weakling he is, while Margaret comes to realize that she has always loved Dan. But Creedon is caught in the meshes of his own intrigue, and to save Margaret from public dishonor he purjures himself and is indicted. Bogh Vane and Dan are guilty, but before Dan is put into jail Margaret succeeds in getting a truthful account of the whole proce- dure and Dan is free to marry Mar- garet. Tom Santschi handles the role of Creedon with exceptional ability, while Gladys Brockwell plays Mar- garet with distinction, Robert El- lis, Florence Turner and Tom Rick- etts also do splendid work, It is a Trem Carr production, dir- ected by Scott Pembroke from Ar- thur Hoerl's adaptation, Shot taffeta is very fashionable in Paris for evening frocks, especially in the richer pastel tints, powder blue jade green, petunia, sweet pea purple and the new shade of rose beige. A style writer says that the backs of frocks are very important this sea- son, and tucking, straps, diagonal in- sets, and even a belt buckling at the back, make the going of a frock as interesting as the coming.
