Busch, president of Annheuser-Busch, Inc, of St' Louis , denounced in a vitriolic fashion the Anti-Saloon Lea- gue for preventing a real solution of the prohibition problem and charged it with direct responsibility for the "eight years of miserable prohibition failure with its paralyzing corruption, its demoralization of youth, its rum running, moonshining and consequent terrifying crimes." . Busche declared his suport of Gov. Smith despite he is a personal admirer of Herbert Hoover, the Republican Presidential nominee, who he des- cribes in his statement, which was issued from his summer home in Cooperstown, N.Y, as a "great Amer- ican and a great administrator." "I shall support Governor Smith because I believe in doing so that I am exercising the highest duty of an American - citizen," Busch said, "for by my vote shall declare myself against the evils of prohibition. I shall support him because his election will end domination of government by Dr. Cherrington and the Anti- Saloon League and all other unofficial busy-bodies who set up or attempt to set up a government above the gov- ernment elected by the people. "There can be no greater issue than whether the people of this country shall be ruled by their elect- ed representatives or by a handful of self-appointed propagandists." Busch declared that Governor Smith's election would be regarded as a mandate from the American people to establish a real temperance sys- tem, which he has always advocated and which his father, Adolphus Busch, advocated throughout his life. The occasion for the issuance of the Busch statement was the recent at- tack by Dr. Ernést H. Cherrington, educational director of the Anti- Saloon League, on the brewing in- dustry on account of a business meeting of the cereal beverage manu- facturers in Chicago, Sept. 6, GABLE OF DERRICK SNAPS; MAN KILLED Constryction ~~ Superinten- dent at Welland Ship Canal Victim Port Colborne, Ont, Aug. 22. -- Jack Symonds, superintendent of the Northern Construction Company, was instantly killed when a large cable snapped and struck him across the el Zi iii SS SP chest, Symonds was watching a der- and of the tires, is well shod, The Secret | correct pressure, and let a reliable tire service man inspect it regularly, Are you sure you got ALL the Mileage out of them?
