Craspon, a French- man, who was carried aut to" sea by a great wave while trying to rescue his Alsatian wolthound. The Frenchman was walking along the beach with his mother between Boulogne and Wimereux at ten o'clock when his dog, which had trotted out into the water, was suddenly lifted off its feet and swept out to sea. The man dash- ed into the sea without removing his clothes, but was earried rapid- lv out to sea, screaming for help. M. Craspon's mother ran to & 'nearby market. and called Miss Ledger, who was marketing there with her mother. The English girl ran to the beach and jumped in to the rescue, fully clothed, without any hesitation, She was a poor swimmer, and the sea was unusu- ally rough, but she hravely ran sions of this Act or who refuses or | through some great rollers and then began to swim. She had al- most reached Craspon when a | wave dashed both of them into a | trough,) and then carried them away. They disappeared in a few | seconds, their mothers helplessly | watching the tragedy. Sidney Springer, of Folkstone, | who is employed on the cross- Channel steamer Engadine, heard their screams and plunged into the sea in an attempt to swim to the spot where the two had heen seen to sink, but he was caught by a wave, hurled against the stone jetty, and knocked unconscious, Other eprsons had now arrived and they managed to save his life, but it is believed that he had a number of ribs broken, The bodies were recovered later, Love is a disease and it is said that only married men are immune, --Chicago Daily News.
