In view of the necessity ot Inking up the old and new sys- tems the problemr in this instance es doubly serious. However, the owners have been very fortunate in" obtaining excellent service in this respect. Gurney Series No, 250 Boiler and Copley Radiators haye proven a remarkably fine com- bination, This equipment was sup- plied by the Gurney Foundry and the installation was handled in a very creditable manner by Fred D, Gerrard. The work was done by Loek- wood Sheet Metal Works. # Contract Well Handled Great credit is due the general contractors, the W. J. Trick Com- pany Limited, for the splendid | manner in which they carried on their work. All of the masonry, carpenter work, painting, plaster- ing, ete., was done by this firm's ' own staff of capable employees. The | sash, partitions, counters and oth- er interior fittings are products of their own up-to-date factory. Not only did the W. J, Trick Company do their own work in a highly sat- isfactory manner but they also supervised the work of the sub- contractors where necessary. It is {a pleasure to be able to say that Trick also built in 1914, the old section of the building, which is an equally creditable job. Credit Due Architect No reference to the new building would be complete without mention of the one man who did the initial work that preceded and gulded aut the rest--the architect, Mr, C. C. Stenhouse is a master of his profes- sion and in the dificult task of preparing the plans for the new building and its co-ordination with the old, many problems cropped up, but Mr, Stenhouse found a way --the best way--of solving them, the maximum in conveniance, good appearance and a generally satis. factory job. At the same time strue- tural requirements for the load the building is required to carry, which 1s quite considerable, were careful- ly guarded, The excavation contract was executed by the Armstrong Con- struction Company of Hamilton, who are now well known in this city, The Times has every reasom to be proud of its mew building, In 1914 when the old building, which is now merged with the new, was erected, it was thought it would serve all the requirements of the business for many years to come, Indeed, nearly half the space was rented at that time, the entire top floor being occupied by the Boy Scouts and later by the Boys' De- partment of the ¥. M, C. A. But gradually the old building was fill. ed, then crowded, and finally a temporary paper storage warehnnse was erected on the rear of the pro- perty. But in time this makeshift proved inadequate and was torn down to make way for the splendid new edifice that now fills the en- tire lot, Neither party dares fo turn fits back on the farmers, Such an ac- tion would present too vulnerabfe a spot for a swift kick--New York Herald Tribune, A magistrate has ruled that the entire house is the boarder's home. This includes all the happenings of the various centres, regardless of how trivial they may seem to other districts but which are of interest to residents of that particular section. It is through efficient service in ad- dition to its general news features that The Times has gained a large circulation in rural parts, In addition to covering country districts The Times also maintains staff reporters in Whitby and Bow- manyille, a complete news service ap- This rural news is not only ap- Jacsiated by residents of the districts rom which the news comes. Many Oshawa readers have connections in these places and many more prob- ably have themselves been residents there at one time. Therefore they are still interested in what transpires. In regard to Whitby and Bowman- ville this also applies in view of the fact that these neighboring towns are closely associated with the Motor City, Many other readers living in distant parts greatly appreciate the country news department of The imes. .
