The dead are: Harms, licensed pilot; John W. Parks and John Blessenet. es BY-LAW NO. 1867, TO PROVIDE for the prevention of smoke. The Council of the Corporation of the City of Oshawa enacts as follows: (1)--No owner, lessee, tenant, agent, manager or occupant of any premises in, or of a steam boiler in connection with which a fire is burning, and no person who oper- ates, uses or causes or permits to be used any furnace, or fire, with- in the limits of the City of Oshawa, shall permit the emission to the atmosphere from such fire of opa- que or dense smoke for a period of more than six minutes in any one hour, or at any other point than the opening to the atmosphere of the flue, stack or chimney. Nothing herein contained shall ap- ply to a furnace or fire used in connection with the reduction, re- fining or snielting of ores or min- erals or the manufacture of ce- ment, or to dwelling houses, ex- cept apartment houses. (2)--No person shall incur a penalty for an infraction of this By-law until] ninety days after no- tice from the Corporation of the existence of such By-law in the Ontario Gazette, and in the daily newspaper published in the City of Oshawa for four consecutive weeks. (3)--Any person convicted of a breach of any of the provisions of this By-law shall forfeit and pay, at the discretion of the convicting Magistrate, a penalty not exceed- ing (exclusive of costs) the sum of $50.00 fer each offence. July 5) 4,000 PRESENT AT BRAMPTON UNVEILING TO HONOR HEROES Bampton, July 4.--More than 4. 000 persons gathered here today to take part in the impressive and solemn ceremonies attendant upon the unveiling of Brampton's war memorial to 58 young men of the town who made the supreme sacri- fice in France and now rest in Flanders' fields, and to eight oth- ers who have died since returning from overseas, His Excellency Viscount Willing- don, GoYernor-General, unveiled the memorial, which is of light grey Canadian granite, the symbols ex- pressive of service, sacrifice and victory. Raised above the passing throng, it holds aloft these sym- bols and names which recall to the mind the glorious achievements in Canadian history. Situated at the southern entrance to Brampton"s business section, and in close prox- imity to the beautiful town park, it occupies a conspicuous position, a place where at some future time will stand the municipal bulldings and offices of the town. The pot must be scoured out with a soft pad of steel wool and scalded as carefully as a milk jug.
