"A Bystander at the Office ndow" in The Toronto Globe asks this question and wn- swers it as follows: Most of us can remember a time when the ni- cycle was a pleasant and healthful means of escaping from the city in- to the country highways and by- ways. There is no doubt that cycl- ing would be just as prevalent to- day were more provision made for the safety of cyclists on our road- ways. That, in a word, is the only thing needful to bring the pas- time back into vogue. In England and on the Continent cycling is still 2 popular sport, and statesmen as well as schoolboys are seen astride the little leather saddle, we are told. Women ride fearlessly. No fewer than 6,000,000 cyclists have been listed in England by the Tour- ing Club. It is getting ready to celebrate a golden jubilee in June. A feature is to be a welay race around Epgland, Wales ana scot Jand. At the finish, on the birth- day of the Prince of Wales, who rides a bieyele himself, there will be a distribution of prizes. In the Scandinavian countries bi- cycles are in general use. All the monarchs ride as well as most of their subjects. Girls flit along the country paths. | Men no more on the sunny side of 60 ride about ser- enely. In Europe there is not a touring car to every five persons The rights of cyclists are recogniz- ed and enforced. Even pedestri- ans there have somre comsideration.
