Con- stant Creek is a tributary of the Madawaska, both of which streame have risen to unprecendented heights. PLAN ANOTHER BRIDGE .. The Thousand Island Bridge Company, of whi W. Gilbert Freeman, of Glens Falls, N.Y., is the president, will go ahead witn its efforts to have its application for permission to build a bridge across the St. Lawrence ratified by the Dominion Parliament. An- nouncement of this was made by the solicitors of a company in Ot- tawa. Yesterday another company, headed by Senator Geo. Graham, Col. G. P, Murphy and others, had its charter for a bridge across the river at Brockville endorsed by the Railway Committee of the House of Commons, The sites of the two proposed bridges are some 292 miles apart, the Thousand Is- land Company planning to con- struct a bridge from a point just west of Alexandria Bay, N.Y. using several islands with bridges connecting them to reach the Cana- dian mainland. Both companies have yet to overcome the objection of Governor Smith of the State of New York, who has, voted such pro- posals, on the ground that they should be undertaken by Govern- ments, rather than private inter- ests, SLUGGISH CALENDARS (St. Louis Post Dispatch) Time flies, in spite of the fact that, according to most of the desk calendars, this 1s only the 22nd of January. LJ LJ Taking out Saturdays, Sundays and the twenty-fourth of May, this makes only 44 days of actual school work or multiplying by five and a half hours per day, 242 hours of labor or whatever you may choose to call it, ee 4 These figures don't include de- tentions or after four sessions. * Mistakes will happen in even the best of regulated publications and the Acta Ludi, good and all as it was, was no exception to the rule, although nevertheless this is no reflection upon the good merits of the magazine, Perhaps the most acute error was an omission on the part of the printers when they left out the line containing Dorothy Scott's name, under the French article en- titled "Un jour dans Ja Ville de Quebec." It is Indeed too bad that an article of such merit as this should appear without the authoress's name attached. CR Another unfortunate error occur- red In the rugby personnel when several lines under Jack Henry's picture should very apparently have been placed after the last sentence given about Jack "Tub" Smith in- stead, es 0 There are still a large number of copies of the Acta Ludi avail- able and these will be on sale at the school on Monday besides in the news stands where they have been all this week. *® * - The Glee Club and Orchestra concert which is scheduled for this month (will loom prominently on the horizon in the near future '| when the definite date will be set and the final rehearsals will be held in preparation for the big event, This should be another success to add to the many which have been to O.C.I's credit this vear, SOCIETY MATRON IS HELD UNDER BAIL "reliminary Hearing for Shooting of Husband * is Completed New York, April 14.--Mrs. Esther Wilson, Washington society woman, was held for the Grand Jury under $10,000 bail Wednesday at the com- pletion of a preliminary hearing for the shooting of her husband, Dallett H. Wilson, prominent lawyer. Four witnesses testified Wednes- day they heard Mrs Wilson admit the shooting and one witness, Wil- liam Quinn, testified he had persua- ded Mrs. Wilson not to commit sui- cide after she had confessed the shooting to him. Wilson was shot twice after he had refused to give Mrs. Wilson a divorce or to give up his alleged associations with other women, Mrs. Wilson told police after the shoot- ing. He is recovering in a hospital. HOSPITALS HIT BY MOTOR MISHAPS Patients Evade Paying For Treatment Received, Many Hospitals Complain London, April 14.--This is the period of the year when many of the great hospitals of this country usually hold their annual meeting of subscribers. There is hardly a meeting of the character at which reference is not made to the in- creasing tax upon the resources of hospitals through the treatment of persons injured in motoring acci- lents. It is depressing to learn Fiat such treatment from patients themselves. The chairman of the Leeds Infirmary stated recently that the cost.of treating more than 1,000 people injured in motor acci- dents had amounted to £4,399, but that all the hospital received from these grateful patients was £62, It may 'be, of course, that the hospital authorities were diffident over mentioning the matter of pay- ment to the injured ones, although Leeds is hardly a place where the mention of payment for services rendered would be likely to be con- sidered indelicate. The fact re mains, though, that practically all the large hospitdls are complain- ing of the lack of readiness td con- tribute shown by the motor *"'casu- alty." Furthermore, the hospitals have a genuine grievance because they are in a different position from the private practitioner in the mat- ter of the recovery of fees for eas- ual attendance. It is also assert- ed that the great motor insurance companies are lacking in the rea- lization of their obligations to as- sist the hospitals.
