SINCLAIR, K.C, Bank of Commerce Bldg., Oshawa, Ontario. 83-89 WANTED--A CAPABLE WOMAN GRAMMARSLIPS Find Five Ways to Improve Bill's Grammar Dear Fred: When I wrote to you yesterday 1 felt like I might never go to the coast again, for I met Dorothy last week and she never referred to the subject. It would be dis- courteous for me to absolutely refuse even if I remained for on- ly a short time, and the reason I know you understand. Cordially yours, Bill, SATURDAY'S LETTER COR. RECTED Dear Fred: I wish to write a few lines rela. tively to George. He is plentifule ly supplied with money and there is no use in your sending him more. He was the first (omit of all) to receive money from his father's estate. Cordially yours, Bill, RUM RUNNERS NOW HAVE NEW ARMORED CRAFT U. 8S. in Transporting Liquor Port Colborne, April 8.--Armor- ed rum-running craft will carry liquor between this and near-by ports to the United States within a few weeks. Hitherto the rum-runners have had no chance once they were over- hauled by Uncle Sam's chasers, be- cause the latter have been armed with machine guns, and it was use- less to argue against such odds. Now the tables will be turned, and the chasers will find it almost an impossibility to make a catch in the open water, The new boats are machine-gun-proof and are also faster than the rum-chasing craft, The speed of the fastest of the oom dm boats has been esti- mated at abotu 30 miles per hour, while the speed of the new armored craft is stated to be about 42 miles an hour. 450-Horsepower Engines The great speed of the new boats will be made by. their two 450- horse-power engines and the ex- tremely sharp bows with which they are being made, While the hoats will carry immense loads, they will be extremely low in the water, and this feature is also an added asset. The steel on the new runners is sald to be one-eighth of an inch thick; while in places where machine gun bullets might injure the crew the steel is twice as thick, The hoats will be 40 feet long. Built with an all-steel pilot house, they have also bullet-proof win. dows and steel hatches which, when raised, afford protection to the pi- lot, For the crew inside, there is the added protection of the cargo, which surrounds them when placed in the new boats. To Start Next Week One of the new boats will take gress contineus as it has. Paint- ing and installation of the two huge motors are the only things left in do hefore the craft takes to ras water. The remainder of the new type will be made and ready for action within a few months, The boats have carrying capacity that greatly exceeds that of any present rum craft. While they are not as fast as some of the ones put into service late last summer, they make up for this in added protec- tion and the size of the load that they will carry. It is announced that a tribe of can- nibals have decided to eat no more women. Another good old custom smashed by that absurd reducing fad.--Toronto Star.
