Jobson had been employed by the girl's father at Lake street during the winter, and in the morning he is said to have enticed the child away, He brought her to town, it is alleged, and had purchased a dress for her in a local store and was on his way to purchase her a pair of shoes, when he was observed by the mo- ther, who, with other relatives of the girl, started a search when the child's absence from her home was discov- ered. PROFESSOR CLAIMS MARS IS INHABITED Maintains Degree of De- velopment is Greater Than Our Own Los Angeles, Calif,, March 31.-- Life probably exists on Mars and may extend to dozens, hundreds or thousands, of other worlds, Dr. Henry Norris Russell, professor of Research Astronomy at Princeton University declared in an address hefore students of the University of California here Thursday, "If living beings exist on other worlds, they have prboably reached a stage of development billions of years.in advance of our own," sald Dr, Russell, "The only present reasonable theory as to the origin of planets would suggest that the earth is more recent than any other body supporting life." "We, as living things on this planet, are not unique. This Is, comparatively, a very young world and we are beings who have just acquired the capacity of contem- plating our origin, We are racially in our infancy, and not at the end of time." The special jury for the case was chosen Thursday from the list of 40 possible jurors picked two weeks ago, From the 16° selected on Thursday, 12 mien will be chosen as a jury at the time the trial opens on April 16, "We expect to serve notice of a motion on Saturday or Monday," said Frank Regan, K.C., counsel for F. W. Wilson and W, T, R, Preston, "It will ask that Sir Arthur Currie be compelled to attend the court to answer several questions which he refused to answer at his examina- tion for discovery recently," = Artists say there's not a prettier profile in Manbattan, but ordinary people compliment her more often on her wonderful mass of soft, gleaming brown hair, She's Adra Adams, lovely New York City girl who lives at 130 East 57th Street. "I was certainly surprised," says Miss Adams, "to see how easy it is to keep my hair soft, shining and easily manageable by the new method so many of my girl friends are using. I don't have to sham poo mine more than once a month now, Danderine keeps it so clean. It makes my scalp feel just wonder- ful and I never have a sign of dand- ruff any more. And Danderine is s0 simple to use. All you do is put a little on your brush each time you fix your hair." Danderine quickly removes that oily film from your hair and re- stores its natural color and lustre. It Keeps bobbed hair in place with- out showing. It stops dandruff. It isn't sticky or oily. This should certainly be joyful news to those parents and friends who were unable to see either of the presentations on Thursday and Friday evenings last week when the gymnasium was crowded to capacity and om both occasions such a credible performance was witnessed that it was acclaimed by all to be one of the best displays ever seen -in Oshawa. * Another capacity house should be on hand on Monday evening next week. The display itself eer. tainly merits it and all the people in Oshawa who might care to, have not yet by any means all seen the presentation. There is capacity for a little over 500 people in the gymnasium but on Monday, space for almost 200 will have to pe set aside for those taking part, This leaves space for about 300 people so you may warn accord- ingly those intending to be on hand. LJ * LJ Which is going to be the lucky or rather the industrious form to get the free theatre party to the Regent Theatre? Already several of the forms have been organized and at least one has put itself on record Jas being eligible for the treat. "This is Miss Armstrong's form, who up to yesterday morning had subscriptions for 63 copies, * LJ] Mr, Patterson has his form di- vided into four sections or teams, with these working against eacn * other while Miss VanLuven has her form divided into two groups under a similar arrangement, With such organizations as these in the various forms themselves, the competition is certain to he keen and will tend to bring out the desired result, that of completing the Acta Ludi's success as far as an all-round achievement is con- cerned, LJ * . The printers are now working night and day on the Acta Ludi in their attempt to get it out before Easter, Unfortunately, however, the Acta Ludi publication is now and has been for a short time, held up by another publication, ths Riverdale Revielle, This has the preference because it was in the printers' hands two weeks before the Acta Ludi but indications at present point to both magazines coming out at about the same time, which we hope will be before Eas- ter, CI I The fire drill which was held by the Fire Marshall in the school on Thursday afternoon was high- ly satisfactory, the time elapsed between the sounding of the gong and the moment the last person got out of the building being 46 seconds, . . The Glee Club and orchestra are now practicing strenuously for their oncoming entertainment which is to be presented after the Easter holidays, If practice has anything to do with it, the pro- gram will be outstanding to say the least, and. no doubt everyone who has already overheard some of their rehearsals has by now made it a point to see to it that they will be on hand when the event- ful evening comes around, . A substantial donation of books has been made to the school lib- rary through the kindness of Mrs. McAdie and. Miss Hislop, for which the librarian and the school tu- gether are very grateful, The d4o- nation includes copies of several of the standard poets, a large and exhaustive three volume history of Scotland, a well illustrated history of the American Civil War, this being in 27 numbers of Harper's Pictorial History, and some copies of the ancient classics in Greek and Latin, LI Five more new books were aad- ed to the shelves of the library this week. Two of these were novels by Sir Walter Scott, anocus er "The Natrual History of the Great Lakes," by Downing, 2 fourth "An English History of Shakes- peare's Plays," and the fifth, that famous work by Macauly, "The Lays of Ancient Rome." LJ] LJ * The librarian has been marking this week the exercises in Library Science, which he has had handed in. A scrutiny of this work has revealed just how much the per odical literature has been used, It is a matter of surprise to both the principal who also saw some of the papers, and the librarian, to find that the students have pot confined themselves to lighter ar- ticles, but have apparently taken pleasure in reading the best fea- tures appearing in both newspapers and magazines. * * . The card catalogue cabinet which has long been waited for, arrived from Ottawa yesterday ava is now in a conspicuous place in the library where it is already be- ing put into use. Anticipating its arrival the librarian has been pre- paring for some time the card in- dex which is such a help in find- ing any desired book. So far has this work advanced that at pres- ent all the books which have en- tered the library since September are now catalogued. LJ Ld * The girls' inter-form basketball series is slated to get under way again next week when the midale and upper school teams play for the championship of the school. Last year this was won by the present fifth form girls apd they are again out to repeat their vie- tory of last season. LJ] * * The boys' inter-form series is also likely to be started again af- ter a pause of several weeks first on account of the intercollegiate championship games and then on account .of the examinations. The playdowns have now entered the second and third rounds and a win- ner will likely be declared by the first week after the holidays. KING AMANDLA' ABSENCE NOTICED Failure to Accompany His Queen Arouses Some Comment London, March 31.--The failure of King Amanullah of Afghanistan to accompany his Queen to the Coliseum on Monday night has aroused a certain amount of com- ment here, although it was explain- ed that His Majesty was detained with heavy mail which had just ar- rived from Kabul. ' The Afghan legion here has emphatically den- ied that the King's absence from the theatrical performance had any- thing to do with political troubles in Afghanistan. Their Majesties are continuing their northern Eng- land tour and will remain here un- til Easter, A Reuter dispatch from Pesha- war, Northern India, throws on in- teresting light on the situation in Afghanistan. It states that news- papers received there from Kabul carry full, harrowing accounts of the destruction caused by heavy snowfalls in Kabul, Jallalabad and Brick Maple Bark, Rug, Pressed, Stock, Sand and Lime, Concrete Units, Hollow Tile W.
