That was about the last straw for Hon. L. | A. Taschereau, who, as Attorney- General, resolved no Quebec hang- jing should ever be seen through the eye of a camera. As a matter of fact, events have been moving toward private execu- tions ever since the Fall of 1924, when the authorities stood aghast as Ontario and United States newspapers poured in requests for passes for the hanging of four bank bandits at Montreal jail. A NOVEL COSTUME Cairo Egypt, March 14.--George Eastman, the camera manufactur- er, arrived on a relief train today in a green pyjama coat, dress trousers, one slipper and one shoe, after having fled for his life from a burning express train some hours' distant from Cairo. The trouble started with a hot box in a couchette coach, which had been converted into.a sleeper. Smoke awakened the passengers, who had the fire extinguished, but later the blaze broke out again, and in a short time the coach was in flames. All owed their lives to- night to a guard who scrambled to the top of the carriages and crawled to the engine, thus warn- ing the driver, who stopped the train. The rebellion culminated in the arrest of her father, Edmond Boivin, a carpen- ter. In Court of Sessions he was charged with practicing magic on his daughter. Judge Monet took the case en delibere and will de- liver judgment on March 22. According to evidence offered by several witnesses Miss Boivin was hypnotized as often as four times a day by her father. While under his influence she would act as an oracle, telling people who came to the Boivin home where they would find lost property, where they could discover hidden treas- ures, where to find positions for their children and how to cure their ills. According to the wit- Montreal, cents to $1. Salvas said he drank the pre- scription several times. The only result he noticed was "I got a ter- ave until this day." It took three J to subdue the resultant hilarity in the court, At the Regent Sam Nosenblum and Ted Me- Higgins, chauffeur and valet to Dick Wright, join the ambulance corps at the beginning of the late unpleasntness so that they can take care of Dick, who walks in his sleep. Dick was induced to join by Betty Burnet, who saves him from an embarrassing situa- tion during one of his sleep walk- ing excursions. He leaves Betty in charge of his millionaire father with instrue- tions to take good care of her. Dick takes so long in saying good- by to her that he finds he has to chase the troop train as it pulls out of the station. Ted and Sam- my are with him and all three are stopped by the hard-boiled Sergeant Fulton, who thinks they are trying to desert from his com- pany. They are offered to go with Fulton's contingent to France and are marked A.W.O.L. by their own commander. In France Fulton makes life miserable for Sammy and Ted be- cause they seem bent on breaking all rules from that against shoot- ing craps to drinking to excess. Dick too, is made to feel the sergeant"s wrath when Dick takes an interest in Joan Moran, a pretty little French girl, in whom the sergeant 1s also interested, though she repulses him. Fulton loses them and sees Dick coming out of Joan's house. Again he gives chase and Dick hides on the same train with his buddies as it pulls out.
