EXPORT DEMAND FOR GRAIN DROPS Shipment of New Argentin: Crop is Blamed Fort William, Jan, 14.--A dc. cided decrease in the export de mand for Canadian grain, with & consequent increase in the stocks all over the country is reported by . A. Ursell, statistician to the Board of Grain Commissioners, Export of the new Argentine crop is under way, and Mr, Ursell points out that this may count for the falling off of export demand for Canadian wheat, Mr, Ursell, in his report issued says: -- 'At the 'end of December, in- | cluding some 27,000,000 bushels afloat in vessels at lower lake ports, there were 55,000,000 bush- els of wheat east of Fort William and Port Arthur, with 84,000,000 at the latter port, 53,000,000 at interior points and 6,000,000 on the Pacific Coast, besides several thousand cars in transit, "The quantities in store and afloat at eastern points, together with the grain moving via the Pa- cific Coast ports, would appear, from present indications to be amply sufficient to satisfy the ex- port demand for the next two months at least, if Argentine ship- ments are as heavy as reports in- dicate, Under these conditions, there is no prospect of an all-rail movement of any size developing in the immediate future from the head-of-the-lakes." Reporting on conditions at the Pacific Cost, Mr, Ursell says: "The movement via the Pacific Coast is substantially larger this season than last, although not, so far as large as aniticipated." JANUARY 14, 1928 * Useful Hints For Radio #11 «Listeners While practitally all radios are subject, at some time, to disturb- ing noises which are difficult to identify, the mew batteryless sets are somewhat more free from these than the older sets which ave operated from storage batteries for the tubes and dry batteries for power. All such extraneous noises may be roughly divided into 2 classes: those which are generated in some part of your own fubtallation, and those due to conditions outside; these latter being sometimes im- possible to remedy. If you are uncertain whether the noise 18 'generated inside your set, tune in a station and then disconnect your aerial and ground wires, © If the noise still continues, then there is mo doubt that the noise is due to somehing in your own set. In this case, examine your "A" battery terminals, and see that they are not corroded. Next, test your "B" batteries, and see that they are of the proper voltage. (Any 45 volt battery registering less than 34 volts should be replaced). A erackling, sizzling scund is usually due to run down "B" bat- terfes. A slight whistling sound may be due to your detector "B" battery being run down. A con- tinuous singing noise heard while antenna and ground are connected may be due to the fact that the Loud Speaker is placed too close from $6,000 to $8,000.
