EDUCATION BOARD HAS FIRST WOMAN CHAIRMAN St. Thomas, Jan. 6.--At the in- auguration meeting of the Voea- tional Institute, George Thurtell, Guelph Township farmer, was to- day fined $25 and costs by Magis- trate Watt. Thurtell in his defense stated that the animals were ter- rorizing his sheep, but the Magis- trate ruled that "No one with com- mon sense could see a beagle hound chasing sheep." In view of the fact that there had been an epidemic of sheep killing in the township during the past few months, Thurtell"s counsel put forth a strong argument for the yong farmer, but could not con- vince the Bence that defendant was within his rights, The owner declared the hounds were hunting &- rabbit' when shot down.
