Van- ANOTHER ECLIPSE AUGUST 31, 1932 Phenomenon M: M:y Bs Soi At Montrea', Says Scientist New Haven, Conn., Jan. 3.--A fireball has been noted by as- tronomers over North Carolina, said Dr. C. P. Oliver, of the Uni- versity of Virginia, which has ev- ery appearance of a shooting star. Dr. Oliver said reports clearly showed that this fireball was ap- proximately 76 miles over the sur- face of the earth when first obser- ved, and had a speed of 17 miles per second. The astronomers were told by Miss Caroline Furnish of Vassar, that there will be another eclipse of the sum visible in New England on August 31, 1932, the path of totality of vision will cross the White Mountains. There is no chance of seeing the Skjellerup comet without a teles- cope, although a photograph was sent to the convention by C. C. Slipper of the University of Ari- zona, it was brought out Friday. The comet disappeared before a telescope could be turned on ft, but in Flagstaff Arizona it was seen clearly in the daylight close to the sun by hundreds of per- sons. As a result of failing to tell astronomers of this ph®nomenon, President George Comstock, of the society, told the astronomers to wire reports of discoveries im- mediately, instead of taking it for granted that other stations had al- so seen it. Professor Furniss said that based upon calculations of the English astronomer, L. J. Cormie, there will be amother to- tal eclipse August 31, 1932. It will come about 3.30 p.m., and will last one miinute and 40 sec- onds, and will be seen in New England and part of Canada about Montreal. ; CONTEST AT COBOURG Cobourg, Dec. 29--There is a cuntest tor the mayoralty of Co- bourg hetween Deputy Reeve W.
