Bradley, chairman of the finance committee of the City Council, is not yet ready to state whether he will be a candidate for re-election, but he is emphatic in de- claring that Oshawa's electoral sys- tem needs revision so that, under Council reduction or otherwise, alder- men would be elected for two year terms, with half of the aldermanic bedy' elected annually, "So far as my personal preferences in the matter are concerned," Mr, Bradley pointed out, "I will not be a candidate. I have served for sev eral years and want a rest. But it is so hard to get men who should serve interested in the matter." Mr. Bradley pointed out that Osh- awa had a large number of men who could easily give their time to City Council work, who should, in fact, volunteer to serve. - Efforts are under way now to get several men into the field to take the place of the four aldermen who have definitely decided not to serve. The charge on which he was taken into custody was not made known. Fire broke out in one of the bedrooms of the Chatillon boarding house and swept through eight buildings before it could be halted. Two boarding houses, two stores, laundry and three residences were destroyed and more than one hundred persons were left homeless. Fifty efployees of a construction company building a dam on the Gatineau River adjoining the village lost all their belongings in the boarding houses. Despite the fire, the village people turned out in full force to attend a dance last night.
