SPORT SNAPSHOTS | Formation of a Major Softhall League at the General Motors of Canada, Limited, is the beginning oi a new era in the summer pastime in Oshawa. For the past two years, and more especially last summer, the game has been on the downward trend, due possibly to the fact that several teams have been "running away" with- things. This will not happen next summer for under the new plan the four best teams that can he garnered together will play in the Major League. While it is not definitely decided yét how many teams will comprise the circuit, there will likely be a quartette. One interesting feature about the mew league is that every team must bear the name of a car made by the Motors, - Therefore they can pick irom Chevrolets, LaSalle, Buicks, Pontiacs, Cadillacs, Oaklands and Oldsmobiles. That meeting at the Generi:l Motors was a dandy and while all the celebrities of local softball were not present, the gathering was fairly representative of the local firm as far as departments are concerned. George Hill was present and hinted that the Chevrolets, the best ever produced in Oshawa, would be in the new league fighting just as hard as ever and with a provincial championship as their goal. The feeling towards other softball organizations operating in the city was excep- tionally good, the various speake s making it quite clear that they desired to help softball in Oshawa rather than injure it. They believed they were doing the proper thing for the game by putting the best class of players into one league. Shamrock Juniors, pride of Oshawa, will keep in condition for their Onta ario Hockey Association campaign, and will go to Toronto to- morrow aiterncon for another workout on the artificial ice. The team is leaving irom Ratz's Tobacco Shop at one-thirty o'clock, with the as- surance that everybody will be at the Arena in plenty of time. With the adyent of cold weather it will soon be possile for the team to do its stuff at the local rink. However, the tempo will have to drop consider- ably. Rumors of a deal between St. Louis and Detroit have been in the air for some time but with no developments. One rumor has the Tigers trading Heinie Manush, Lu Blue and Al Wingo for George Sisler, There has been a deal in the making but Sisler is not involved, and if a trade is made it will likely be Manush and Blue for Harry Rice, the at the organization meeting of the Major Softball League. Alexandra Park has been a topic on the agenda of nearly all the sport meetings best throwing outfielder in the majors. Rice is a dead left field hitter, and his batting is not as helpful to the Browns in the St. Louis park as Manush's would be, where the short right field bleachers would turn many of his long clouts into homers. Toronto fans will be interested to know that Miller Huggins, of the Yankees, is willing to take the veteran Frank O'Rourke, and former Leaf, any time that Dan Howley is ready to talk trade. = Fhe grounds question did not receive much attention last night the writer has attended this fall. That a new ficld is under considera- tion is the only fact that can be drawn out and if the General Motors really ahead with the proposal, a long felt need will be fulfilled. It vas oo ited ot ta t night's meeting that numerous times when teams hd scheduled games and needed the diamonds, those minor teams occupying them w dl not get off. "Oa one occasion we went right ahead and played and whenever our ball came ncar them, they "swatted' it." said one manager. New Seria Begins Tomorrow! "THE MOORCROFT ANOR MYSTERY" By J. R.
