The United Drug Company and Sterling Prod. | ucts, Ine., are making arrangements |i which would bring about a $145.- | 000,000 combination. The new com-~ pany, if the deal is completed, will | be known as the United Sterling Company. The merger plan is said to in. volve the issuance of three new common shares for cach share of United Drug common and two shares of new stock for each Ster- ling Products share. The 'market price of the two stocks indicated these terms today. United Drug clo- sed at 197% or off 2% points, while Sterling Products finished at 138%, or off 3% points Under present plans Louis K, Lig gett, president of the United Drug Ce., would become chairman of the board; A. H Diebold, treasurer of Sterling Products, probably would be president. The combined company would retain most of its principal executives. The change from met- al to leather bodies for automobiles ' has a tremendous effect on retail leather prices, In many cases the bo- dies are entirely constructed out of hard leather.
