Shortly after three o'clock a 'heavy electric storm lasting about a quarter of an hour passed east- ward, and following it, with scarce- ly any warning, a Isecond; storm broke with tropieal fury. Rain and' hafl were driven before a terrific wind and lightning and thunder were incessant. The wind struck the southwester- ty section of the town. Forty feet of one side of the sixty-foot roof on James MeMann's barn was lighted off the timbers. It broke in two pieces in the air, one falling to the ground 'beside the barn and the other being carried three hundred feet and deposited in the C.N.R. yards, missing the corne\ of the depot by inches. WE DELIVER PHONE 104 and careered wildly down the main line till' it got out of the narrow wind belt. The heaviest damage was done to the partly constructed building of St. Andrew's Anglican Church. Here the west wall was blown into: the interior, twisting and smashing the steel girders that had just been' put in place above the basement. Tim- bers, sash, door frames, girders and several brackets were destroyed. | Trees in front of the church and | on the opposite side of the street | were snapped off and piled on the roadway, and a Hydro pole bearing | a transformer was struck by lightn- | ing; this, in addition to the large. number of trees that have been thrown across transmission lines will be responsible for the town being in darkness tonight. | Woodstock, 'Ont., July 13.--Wood- | stock and Oxford County were today | counting the cost of a miniature cyclone which swept through the district last night, blowing down houses and other farm buildings, laying crops and uprooting trees. | In Woodstock the most serious dam- age was done at the plant of the Toronto City Dairy, where the ven- tilators and roof were blown off] and deposited in a cemetery a block away. Near Embro the silos on the farms of George Patterson, Gordon Johnston and Frank Karn were de- molished. and south of Woodstock a silo and windmill on the farm of George Goodwin were blown down. Rural telephone and Hydro lines were seriously damaged by the storm, rendering communication with the most seriously affected parts of the county almosa impos- sible until this afternoon. Camp Tents Flattened Ingersoll, Ont., uJly 13.--Reports which came in from outlying dis- tricts today indicate that apart from trees blown down and straw stacks blown away, there was little real material damage to last even- ing's tornado-like storm hich swept this district. One car was blown to the ditch from the highway just east of here without serious damage. Consternation was thrown into a C.G:LT. girls' camp on the Pirie farm in North Oxford. The girls, who were from Trinity United Church, Ingersoll, had four tents, where they were camping for some days past. Three of the tents were blown down by the high wind, one being blown into the river. A ~WRIGHT FUNERALS Si sor to DISNEY FUN AL SERVICE Simcoe St. S ER Phone 1082 Unsurpassed' Ambulance Service Rr I.
