Prompt Delivery NOTORIOUS CAPTAIN 13 HEED IN BOSTON Gun-runner Charged. With 'Intimidation apd Ob- structing Justice IS ARRAIGNED Latest Sequel to Seizure of Ship Off United States Coast Boston, July 9.--Captain Browne Willis, grizzled sea captain and in- ternational gun runner, was held here Thursday in $5,000 bail fol- lowing arraingment Wednesday in Federal Court on a charge of in- timidation and obstructing justice in the latest sequel to the seizure of his ship, the Nicaraguan steam trawler, Clara Matheu, off New Bedford last January. Coastguards captured his ship in territorial waters while the craft was supposedly bound from Hali- fax, N. S., to St. Pierre, Miquelon, with Canadian mails. The captain was $15,000 at that time, but subse- quently disappeared, as did 14 other members of the Clara Math- eu's crew, and the master was not heard from again until he stug- | gered into a Brooklyn restaur: nt | on March 3 with a story of having | been shot while an innocent by- stander to a Van Courtlandt Park gun duel. Taken for Ride ' Police, however, expressed the supposition he had been 'taken for a ride" and declared that a metal case probably had saved his life, Subsequently he was charged with obstructing justice before the Federal Court in New York and held in $9,000 for removal to this city, but again dropped out of sight only to be arrested when he step- ped down the gang plank from a Holland-American liner in Hoboken, N: J., on June 11. Such an aliance, Sir Thomas de- clared, would be a great step to- ward cementing Anglo-American friendship and would also serve to shift the centre of the British Em- pire in the direction of the United States. Why, he asked, should the heir | to the British throne confine his search for a bride to the Continent, when there were as good families | available in America as in Europe? | TO RENT--THREE ROOMED UN- furnished flat.
