A Mississauga man re- sponsible for a random and unprovoked stabbing in an Oakville park has been placed in the care of the Fo- rensic Psychiatry Program at St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton after being found not criminally responsible for his actions. Pravin Anthony, 35, was arrested by Halton police and charged with attempt- ed murder and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose on March 30, 2021. An agreed statement of facts presented to a Milton court noted that during the evening of March 30, 2021, a family of four, including two school-aged children, were in Clearview Park playing with a Frisbee when Anthony approached them, holding a large stick and saying things like, "I know what you are doing." Anthony reportedly swore at the father and drove the family from the park. Moments later, at around 7 p.m., Anthony en- countered a teenage couple in a wooded area of the park. After Anthony report- edly made obscene com- ments to the young woman and threatened to slap her, the teenagers grabbed their belongings and ran away. At some point after this interaction, Anthony en- countered a 61-year-old man, who was walking alone in a wooded area of Clearview Park. According to the agreed statement of facts, this man walked past Anthony be- fore he was attacked. The court document states An- thony pulled out a 10-inch kitchen knife and stabbed the man in the abdomen and the hip. The victim reportedly fled the area as quickly as he could, emerging from the Sir David Drive en- trance to the park, where he approached a man work- ing on his front yard and asked for help. This individual called 911. At this point, Anthony began to approach, but then turned around and re- turned to the park. He was arrested by Hal- ton police without incident at 7:38 p.m. The victim was rushed to hospital with life-threat- ening injuries, including a deep liver laceration and a complex laceration to his stomach. He remained in hospital until April 10, 2021 but was readmitted later in April for five days due to compli- cations. A Milton court found Anthony not criminally re- sponsible for his actions nearly a year later, on March 24, 2022. In a review of Anthony's case, the Ontario Review Board heard that Anthony had immigrated to Canada in 2003 with his parents and two siblings. The board also heard that he had obtained a di- ploma in business adminis- tration from Sheridan Col- lege and then gained em- ployment as an insurance claims adjuster.
