As municipal election season gets underway, we're gearing up to bring Halton voters everything they need to know to make an in- formed decision when cast- ing their votes on Oct. 24. For the most part, we traditionally see a fulsome race for every seat -- whether it be for council or school board -- in Halton's four municipalities, and this election is no different. A robust slate gives vot- ers choice and serves de- mocracy at its most authen- tic level -- in municipalities where it's not about politi- cal parties, it's all about people. The deadline to register as a candidate has now passed, and we would like to congratulate everyone who has stepped up to this challenge. It takes unique bravery. Campaigning takes time, energy, money and a thick skin. And if you win -- then you are at the beck and call of constituents for the next four years. If you do the job right, you will work night and day. What you say and what you do will be scrutinized, and a trip to the grocery store could mean multiple conversations with voters who have axes to grind as well as tasks to pile on. And the local newspaper will hold your feet to the fire the whole time. None of this has scared you off, and we thank you.
