Mrs. Helen Jartus (Supernumerary) and Mrs. Doroth i Rummery, Corps Staff Officers of Thunder Bay Corps, also attended. } During the joint inspection of the Thunder Bay, Geraldton, Sault Ste. Marie and Schreiber units, i several presentations of awards were made. Mrs. iG.D. Ashley, Provincial Cadet Officer presented | Mrs. Helen Jartus, Corps Staff Officer, (S) St. John with a silver bar service. Mrs. Jartus had been in- : vited to receive this award in Toronto on June 13th at the annual Investiture by His Honor, the Lieuten- ant Governor of the Province of Ontario, but had to decline due to illness in the family and a request was made to have the award presented in Thunder Bay . SHOWER HONORS MRS. ALLAN GILMOUR Mrs. Allan Gilmour (nee Lois LeBlanc) was honored at a shower-tea in the United Church Hall, Sunday, June 20th arranged by her friends. Assisting her in receiving were her mother Mrs. A. LeBlanc and Miss Rona Godin. Mrs. S. Law was dining room hostess . Guests were served by Anne Marie McGrath, Jane and Anne Bailey, Debbie Armstrong, Joyce Cluet and Beverly Hamilton. Gifts were opened by Mary Pat Santerre and Shelley ' Souliere circulated the guest book. Mesdames R.Bailey, |. Martin, L.Godin assisted in the kitchen. ' SCHREIBER OLD TIMER DIES AT 88 The Funeral of James Edward Harris, 88, who died June 16th in Terrace Bay Private Hospital, was held | in Schreiber Friday, June 19th at 1] a.m. in Holy _ Angels Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Father J. ' Cano officiating. Honorary Pallbearers were Austin Cosgrove, Ed Nicol, Pat Bourguignon, Tom Bolan, George Duncan i and Nelson Smith. the Pallbearers were all grand- sons of Mr. Harris, Jim Boon, Norman Boon, Lenny Harris, Georgie Harris, Russell Weaver, and Jime Harris. Interment was in Schreiber Cemetary . A resident of Schreiber for the past fifty year, he had also resided in Chapleau for approximately fif- teen years. A retired C.P.R. employee, he was predeceased by his wife Carolyn in 1928. Survivors are four daughters, Mrs. Charlie Boon, {Eleanor); Mrs. Russell Weaver, (Margaret); Mrs. Harry Prescott, (Elizabeth); Mrs. Jack McCouan, 4 (Alice), all of Schreiber; two sons, Joe and Leonard | | : of Chapleau. Predeceased by a son, John, in 1967.} | f z a From out of town to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Harris and family, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Harris and family, of Chapleau; Jim Boon of © Timmins, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Costell and Family of Thunder Bay; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Randa and Mr. and Mrs. Al Regis of Terrace Bay. TOWN TOPICS Mrs. Fred Eickmeier is in Thunder Bay to attend the Lutheran Church Womens Missionary League Convention, of the Minnisota North District, which is being held in St. Patrick's Cathedral . Mrs.J. Spikula and children are leaving for Toronto and then to Boston to visit her brother . Angus McDonald of Vancouver is visiting old friends in town. Walter Shewchuck is a patient in McKellar Hospi- tal. . Mrs. Earldine Elliott of North Bay visited with her brother and family, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Gray. She also attended the graduation exercises at Mc- Kellar hospital when her niece Donna Gray received her Nursing Diploma. E. Gerow, Mrs. Annie West, Mrs. Berne Jacomb and Mr. and Mrs. W, Gerow attended the graduation| ~ exercises at McKellar Hospital . i David Drake has returned from the Youth and Recreation Advisory Committee, Toronto where he was selected to represent this group of young people at the National Convention which will be held in New Brunswick the first week in August. Terry McParland and Lennie Christiansen who were working in Powell River,B.C. have returned home. A few friends of Mrs. Walter Dukes dropped in to wish her Happy Birthday, Tuesday - cont'd page 15
