Fischer, and H.J. McParland, returned by acclamation, welcomed and congratulated each other at their inaugural meeting, éach feeling that 1970 will be a year of hope and ful- fillment for their town. Among matters discussed were a review of by/laws concerning old buildings, unsightly properties and parked, wrecked vehicles; and arrangement to put tax arrears into a reserve fund; renovation of the town hall, and continuing to replace sidewalks each year as needed. Reeve Harness agreed to meet with officials in Tor- onto in the matter of sewage installation, in this in- stance concerned with crossing the new highway by sewage lines. Building a new post office in Schreiber will bene- fit the municipality, but the site has yet to be deter- mined. The change in the assessment act, with high- er equalization assessment, will bring higher assess- ment to Schreiber, and councillor McParland urged taking some form of economic service to the town - a study of ideas in promotion of the town when the sewage installation is completed. Mr. Spadoni expressed appreciation for the work done by council, on his behalf; and for their kindness to his family during his lengthy illness last year,. hoping that his added time and concern this year, would repay them. It was agreed the new highway lighting and paved access to the town were much desired improvements. Mr. Fischer paid tribute to the co-operation of both the office and town staffs. Mr. Caccamo expres sed his satisfaction in the policing of the town, pro- tection by the volunteer fire department, the new ambulance, the garbage ee (already paid for) and the arena board. Mrs. M. Zombori, and Aurel Gauthier, (newly appointed assistant town clerk) acknowledged their: pleasure in working for the town. Appointments made were - Mrs. Mary Zombori , clerk, treasurer, tax collector; Edmund Borutski, utility man; Clarkson Gordon and Co., auditors; H.G. Blanchard, town solicitor; H.J. McParland, representative on Thunder Bay Health Unit for 1970; Mrs. Inez McCuaig, ratepayers' representative on the public library board, with Mrs. Jacqueline Turner, Gwen Hadley. Mr. McParland was authorized to sign cheques in the absence of Reeve Harness. : A change was made in payment of town employees Formerly town employees were paid every second Friday with cut-off period on Thursday at 6 p.m. Cut off period will now be on Wednesday at 5 p.m. The office of the by/law enforcement officer was put up for bid. It was decided to have tax bills done in Thunder Bay by electronic Data processing method. The Recreation committee will be charged rental for their monthly meetings.
