TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 11 ere DRIVER EDUCATION PROGRAM IN HIGH SCHOOL A driver education program has been organized in Terrace Bay High School. Many students, eager to 5 learn the "Rules of the Road" and the safe operation eee eG . . ee of an automobile have applied for this course. oe eS 'a : A total of twenty-one pupils are on their way to becoming safe drivers this fall and more are expected for the second course being offered in the spring. The students will receive twenty-five hours of in-class instruction where they are taught the basics of driving. Each one will also be able to practice this knowledge and the finer points of driving tech- niques behind the wheel. The in-car instruction in- cludes eighteen hours of observation and six hours of actual practice behind the wheel for each student. Classes are held during after school hours and in- car instruction is carried on Saturdays and Sundays. The instructors are Mr. E. Saranpaa and Mr. W. Melnyk (seen in photo below) who are both specially trained and fully qualified for this job. The car, a 1969 Ford, was donated by Gibson Motors in Thunder Bay. Services are being supplied by Shell Oil Canada Limited. NSSSAA ANNUAL VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT Last Friday Terrace Bay Senior Volleyball Teams travelled to Nip-Rock to play off for the Western Division of NSSSAA Annual Volleyball Tournament. Terrace Bay girls gained a victory over Geraldton, winning the first two games. Nip~Rock was victorious over Terrace Bay (15+1) in the first of two games. The spirit and aggressiven- ess of the Terrace Bay girls made the second game much closer though the girls were beaten. Still not defeated by their losses to Nip-Rock, the TBHS girls attempted a final victory over Schreiber . These two games were the best played of the entire girls competition. Terrace Bay lost both games, but did not make it easy for Schreiber to win. The team spirit was maintained throughout the whole day with Schreiber cheering for Terrace and Terrace doing the same for Schreiber, against Nip- Rock and Geraldton. The Terrace Bay boys took to the court, with their first game against Geraldton,winning the first game 15 - 4 but encountering difficulty in the second game. But with help from the cheerleaders who came in at a critical moment, the boys won a deciding 16-14 victory. The boys then ventured into their second series of games against Nipigon. They ran up a 15-3 victory in the first game and a 15-6 win in the second. Terrace Bay boys final series of games found them- clashing with Schreiber but Terrace Bay were vic- torious once again with a 15-6 and 15-8 win. During the day the Terrace Bay team was full of spirit and vigor with an all round effort put up by the team. Wherever the opposition tried to put the ball a Terrace man was there to recover.
