COUNCIL QUOTES Town Council of Terrace Bay met last Tuesday in regular session in the Council Chambers . First item of business was word that the road in front of the High School will be repaired as soon as the contractor is 'in town to do paving. Township solicitors advised that the debenture by- law has been submitted for approval to the Trustees of the purchase . The Township has advised local boards of the Travel Accident Insurance to cover persons travel- ling on town business. The new Fire Truck is expected to be here by September 22nd. Township solicitors have been looking into the matter of unnecessary noise from motorcycles, and have suggested a method of control to enforce the law under the Highway Traffic Act. Failing this, they suggested passing a local by-law to cover noise emitting from motorcycles disturbing residen- tial properties. Councillors were reminded of the North Western Ontario Municipal Association Con- vention to be held on October 2,3, and 4th. A resolution was passed to send the Reeve and as many councillors as possible. Council agreed to accept a portion of Lot 120, offered by Kimberly Clark, for purposes of a Fire Hall, and to relinquish their hold on Lot 11, Simcoe Plaza. TERRACE BAY NEWS the District SAFETY PAYS LONG -LIFE DIVIDENDS ptember 18, 1969 BOARD OF EDUCATION OUTLINES PLANS FOR DISTRICT SCHOOLS The Lake Superior Board of Education met in the library of the Manitouwadge Public School on Mon- day, September 8th, 1969. Of particular interest was the planning committee report which was adopted by the Board to form guidelines for future action. Considerable discus- sion has taken place regarding the future of the four high schools and it was the decision of the Board that the present high schools in Schreiber, Terrace Bay, Marathon and Manitouwadge would be retained. The Schreiber High School will offer subjects presently considered to belong to the Arts and Science programme and the Business and Com- merce programme. The Terrace Bay High School will continue to offer the Arts and Science, The Science, Trades and Technology,and the Occupa- tional programmes. The Marathon High School will offer the Arts and Science,and the Business and Commerce programmes, while plang will be instituted to introduce The Science, Trades and Technology,and The Occupational programme sub- jects along with those of the Arts and Science programme in the Manitouwadge High School. The Board will take steps to ensure that all el- ementary schools have resource centres, fac- ilities for satisfactory use of E.T.V., and adequate lunch supply and storage facil- ities.
