BANNING HEADS NEW ASSOCIATION Many interested persons from Schreiber and Terrace Bay attended a meeting in the Schreiber town hall and were successful in forming a Schreiber-Terrace Bay Association for the mentally retarded. The opening prayer was given by Rev. Arthur Chabot, chairman for the Mardthon and District Association for the mentally retarded. Alfred Allen, chairman of the nominating commit- tee presented a slate of officers which was accepted. They are - pres. Mrs. G.W. Banning, Ist vice pres. Mrs. R.V. Hopper, 2nd vice pres. Cano, Tom Quinton, Schreiber. The Association hopes to start a class in the near future for trainable mentally retarded children. R.L. Ferron, Northern Area Representative of the BAY NEWS JULY 3, 1969 Ontario Association for the Mentally Retarded, spoke on what is being done and what is being accomplished in Northwestern Ontario. Morgan, Director of Education, Lake Super- ior Divisional Board of Education, explained the participation of the Board if and when a class is form- ed for the trainable mentally retarded children. A question period followed. Mrs. Saima Willoughb was in charge of a display of work from the Adult Retarded Centre, Port Arthur. LIVED IN SCHREIBER FORTY-FOUR YEARS The funeral of the late Mrs. William Glad, 67, whose death in hospital occurred on June 24, was conducted in St. Andrew's United Church in Schreiber June 27 by Rev. E.C. Prinselaar. Wendy Weaver was organist and hymns chosen were Let Christain Faith and Hope Dispel and Blest Be The Everlasting God. Honorary Pallbearers George Duncan, Nelson Smith E. Gerow, Tom Bolan, W.G. Furlonger and George Birch. Active pallbearers were Ted Graham, J.R. Rummer Alex Gordon, Robin Moore, Joe Commisso, and D'Arcy Furlonger. Interment was in Schreiber cemetery. Mrs. Glad is survived by her husband, two sons, Earl and Melvin both of Schreiber, nine grandchildren}. her mother, one sister, five brothers. She was predeceased by a son Roy in 1965. The former Grace May Cates, she was born in Emo, Ontario and came to Schreiber in 1925. She married William Glad in 1926 and the couple have lived since in Schreiber.
