The latter two men had been associated with Jack during his term as president of the North Shore Hockey League. Principal speaker at _ the dinner was Ken Ward of Manitouwadge, former Recreation Director here, who paid tribute to Jack. The dinner was chaired by Joe Adamo. Jack will take an early retirement this year and he and his w wife Isabel plan to make their home in the Niagara Peninsula. While the cynosure of all eyes was, of course, the graduating class, the new facilities also claimed some attention. Chairman of the evening was the Principal, Mr. W.W. Rowsome who introduced those occupying the new and colorful chairs on stage. He paid tribute to the retiring Board members, thanked Mrs. C. Simmer, who. was accompanist for the evening, introduced the members of the staff and said that the beautiful dec- orations used in the hall were the result of many hours of work by Carol Sadowick and her committee. The audience rose as Graduates entired the hall and remained standing during O Canada and the Invocation which was delivered by Rev. T.G. Husser Reeve W.E. Cavanaugh conveyed congratulations to the grads from the Township then sweet-voiced Jane Persson sang "Goodbye My Love." Lake Super- ior Board of Education Director E.J. Morgan was Guest Speaker. Mill Manager J.A. Ferrier extended the congra- tulations of Kimberly-Clark Pulp & Paper Co. and said that indications are that a Terrace Bay student may be this year's recipient of the Kimberly-Clark $2000. Scholarship. Another solo, this time by Lorraine Belliveau,who chose the lovely "Born Free" as her offering, preceded presentation of awards. Mr. A. Chisholm made the presentation of awards for Proficiency to Susan Graham, Gr. 12; Lorraine Belliveau, Gr. 11; Claudette Boudreau, Gr. 10; and Cathy Melnyk, Grade 9. The students were also recipients of the Soughton Jewllers' Award which was presented by Miss Ruth Soughton. Prior to presenting their certificates to the gradu- ation class Cathy Melynk played "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" on the, piano a song fresh in everyones' mind these days since the death of the famous actress who introduced it. Diplomas were then presented by Mrs. Cruikshank to Cathy Bailey, Linda Ballentine, Terry Black, Reid Boutilier, George Dashkewytch, Evelyn Fournier, Susan Graham, Gdry Gusul, Peter Heenan: - cont'd page 11
