| JUNE 12,1969 woth Roe DBR ANNUAL PENNY AUCTION JUNE 20 Mothers were guests at the May meeting of the Women's Institute and a new member Mrs. Jim Crook was welcomed. In the absence of the president Mrs. Joe Campbell, the meeting was chaired by the vice president Mrs. Harvey McCanna. Mrs. J.D. Bryson was pianist. Motto for the day was "A mother is worth @ 100 schoolmasters." Miss Konrad, District Home Econom- ist, sent word that the topic for the Meal Forum to be held in Fort William will be "Tricks with Mix." Mrs. Ken Williamson, card secretary reported many cards sent out during the month. | The time for the regular meetings was changed from 2.30 to 2p.m. The date for the annual penny auctio was set for June 20 in the town hall starting at 7.30 . There will be a door prize. Each member was asked to donate six prizes and also to make a donation to a grocery hamper which wil! be raffled the same night. Mrs. A.W. Slater, district director, gave an excel- lent report on the district annual meeting she attended along with Mrs. Harvey McCanna, in McGregor. Pamphlets and books dealing with survival units for the home, highway and home safety were distributed. A donation was made to the Canadian Bible Society. An eight piece set of stainless steel cutlery was order- ed. Extra pieces will be added later. The secretary was instructed to write town council for permission to place a bench in the town park. A gift will be presented to a member leaving for Pinewood court. A letter was sent to town council complimenting them on the improved appearance of the lower hall following the renovations . A discussion was held on the scholarship which is given to the student in the elementary schools who has the highest standing passing from grade 8 into high school. It was decided to present these at the Septem- ber meeting and the secretary was instructed to write and obtain the student's names. UNITED CHURCH WOMEN A dinner in Restaurant LeBlanc preceded the meet- ing of the United Church Women. Following the dinner the group went to the Church Hall for the meeting which opened with the UCW TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 15 ~ purpose and hymn. Mrs. Wesley Clemens presided. The minutes were read and the roll call taken by Mrs. Russell Macadam in the absence of the secretgry Mrs. Nelson Smith. The treasurer's report was given by Mrs. Bill Thrower. A letter of appreciation was received from the Official Board for a donation of money. The Prairie Christain Training Centre sent brochure giving information on their summer program. A donation was made to the Canadian Bible Society. Members agreed to cater for a dinner for the St. John Ambulance Brigade on June 26. The dinner committee will take charge of two din- ners to be held in June. Mrs. Jim Crook gave a report on a meeting of the Official Board which she attended. The president thanked Mrs. Russell Macadam and Mrs. Walter Dukes who convened the recent card party and Mrs. Frank Fummerton for convening the lunch for the Bible Society meeting. Penny auction and a social evening followed the meeting with lunch served by Mrs. Wesley Clemens and Mrs. Russell Macadam. AWARDS BANQUET Over 80 attended the Awards banquet held by the Schreiber High School in the Guild Hall. Grace was said by Brenda Lalonde and the toast to the Queen was given by Helen Harness. Guest speaker was E.J. Murphy, Physical Educatio Program Consultant of Port Arthur. Awards presented included Bars, Trophies, Lone and Owls. Barbara Stefurak and Stanley Spadoni an- nounced the program. Social Bars were presented for Student Council ( 1) Library Club (13), Drama Club (12) Camera Club (6) Owls Hoot (3). Athletic Bars for House League (13) Senior Boys Basketball (9) Senior Girl's Basketball (16) Senior Boys Volleyball (10) Senior Girls Volley= | ball (10) Track and Field (38) Boys Gymnastic Team |} (8) Girls Gymnastic Team (7) Badminton (5) Sr. Curl- ing Club (23) Jr. Curling Club (16) Boys Cross Count Team (9) Girls Cross Country Team (10) Golf Team | (4) Self Defence (14) Pep Club (27) Cheerleaders (8).
